Larry played for the club from 1947-1954 as a wing half having signed from local club Paget Rangers. On retiring from professional football, he enjoyed a very long and successful career as a journalist and broadcaster to much acclaim.

THE FUNERAL WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY 17TH APRIL AT 12.20PM AT WILFORD HILL CREMATORIUM_, Loughborough Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham,Nottinghamshire, NG2 7FE.

Yours sincerely,

Sad news. Remember hearing Larry's post match radio reports on games involving the Midlands sides. Always enjoyable, and usually offering more detail than what we get now. Particularly remember him extolling the virtues of a young Matthias Breitkreutz back in the early 90s, after a particularly impressive game. Old school broadcaster, missed.

Living abroad, tuning in to the BBC World Service's Saturday sports programme on short wave and hearing "Villa Park, Larry Canning" and his restrained and knowledgeable match report. R.I.P. Larry. Holte Enders in the Sky.

Hello Villa folk ~ Larry Canning was my uncle and I'd just like to say a few words from a Family perspective: everyone loved Larry, the Family revolved around him. He was charismatic, kind, generous, caring and loved a laugh. If there was a Family problem Larry would be the first one there. We'll all miss him dreadfully but, oh God, what a privilege to have been related to him. Sleep warm, Larry. x
