McLeish Focusing On 40 Points

Alex McLeish has talked about shooting an Albatross and his desire to see Villa get to the 40 point mark.

Speaking to the E&S bemoaned our run of bad luck both on the pitch and with injuries, by saying:

'The Gods are conspiring against us a bit and I think I've shot an Albatross or something. It's a tough season and a tough challenge, but it's not over yet. We have to get to at least 40 points. We have been weakened by injuries, that does make your job much harder.'

Now there's no doubt injuries certainly haven't helped, but that doesn't excuse the performances or the decisions taken previously in the season when injuries weren't an issue.

scratching head

It just seems like there's always something else to blame, young players, injuries, four forwards, blah blah blah.

McLeish may have some good news come the next match though, as it's possible that N'Zogbia, Cuellar or Clarkie may be fit enough to return to the line up, or be an additional more experienced option for the bench at least.

Even getting one back would be a boost.

Given where we are a 40 point total is reailstic. I just hope that people don't use the injury and Stan's illness as an excuse for failing. We still have 11+ professionals and there are NO excuses. Time for the younger players to move on and take their chances.

To be fair to McLeish, we have had a LOT of injuries - but that is what you get in the modern Premiership with modern players - racehorses rather than shire horses. If the club is to survive - prosper - the entire management must take on board that fact. Injuries to key players are inevitable and must be taken into account during planning of squad purchases.

Don't give me that injury rubbish Eck, we have played 30 games and been complete and utter tripe in more than most of them even when we had all our players fit!! I wish Eck would just do the right thing and pack his bags, it's very sad that the only person that wants him is the one the counts the most Randy. As for the 40pts, I've been over and over it and the max I can see us getting is 38pts, if we stay up with that total its on the back of other teams doing worse than us, not us doing well. Liverpool are crap but I have a feeling they will give us a hiding this weekend. What else can we do to get Eck out?? Any American fans on here that can go protest outside his house?? He needs to realise what the hell he has done.

So lightning strikes twice in the same city with the same manager. At this point last year bloose had 34 points compared to our 33. We all know what happened. He's now blaming McGrath and albatross's for his negativeness in trying to scrounge a draw in every game. 3 points for a win Eck. We've drawn more than everyone else. You don't acheive things by trying to draw and settling for attempting to only acheive a third of the possible points going. Simple mathematics and Eck is more than old enough to have worked this out after countless failed attempts. Didn't have a clue about the numpty

Before he came to us but the fans didn't need to do our homework on him. Randy CANNOT afford to overlook this sort of thing. He's supposed to be a top business man. Eck is not fit for purpose. How could he get away with portraying himself to be something that he's clearly useless at for so long and in the public limelight aswell???? Souness, Strachan, Barnes, O'Leary, potato head all look far better than him in hindsight. Randy and Faulkner aren't worthy.

The only way he'll get 40 points this season is if he gets a nectar card!

Villan444 I've not looked but the Blues 34 from 30 argument needs to be put into the context of the points attained by clubs around them at the same stage of the season last year and the points earned by the other clubs this season. Talk Sport were talking about this yesterday without putting it into context. yes its sqeaky bum time but lets keep the thoughts sensible.

Gordon mate, those points totals are facts and very sensible. If Eck fails to get more than 5 points from his last 8 games again mainly due to blaming the same injuries Eckscuse, then history very well could repeat itself and the man will never work again as a manager. It cannot be bad luck that this happens to the same man twice, 2 years in a row. We had very few injuries under MON and several under GH. Mainly due to his overworking of the players. Eck cannot blame everything Eckcept himself for our woes when the events are so similar.

And Gordon, you should be trying to lecture Eck about keeping things sensible. He's the one that started off on the albatross business. Please.....

If we dont get to at least 40 points he should be sacked (regardless of whether we say up of not). Any other season and we'd be down with less than 40. Its contradiction after contradiction now. He needs to go after the final game of the season

glb - oh dear oh dear oh dear. This constanst effort to try and defend McMuppet is making you looking silly. It obvious from your posts that you are an intelligent man. So there can only be two reasons for your inability to see what every other Villa fan has seen for the last few months. You are in love with McMuppet because you are his wife or one of his children. Or as is more likely, you are one of the club staff who we now know have been ordered to infiltrate message boards to spread lies and misinformation. McMuppet has blamed Bent, Albrighton, Weimann, Warnock, injuries, and now Albatrosses and God for why we are so poor. The man is an absolute nutter and must be removed immediatly . . . . . if not sooner.

And to top it all off we now have a manager who is looking to achieve 7 points from 8 games. You couldn't make it up. How about saying we are going to try and win all of our remaining games which would see us finish in the top 7??? I despair that the most negative managerial appointment in our 138 year history will be the one from which we may never recover. Please please get him out now. If not sooner!

40 points? Is that what Aston Villa have been reduced to? 40 points? 7 points from 8 games? That's our target? It's pathetic isn't it? No ambition. No motivation. No tactical awareness. No idea. No hope. I am beyond despair.

Injuries have only started lately, we have been in this position since November. He is full of excuses and we ARE going down! And he will walk away with a golden handshake and we will be left to pick up the pieces in the championship!
