Aston Villa - The Relegation Game

Aston Villa - The Relegation Game

Well, this is just like public transport (yeah, as if I`d know about such commoner things...!...ahem) you wait a while then two come along at once!

Last night, text chatting with the one and only Revd Pete, I started to feel 'ouch, we are going down` feeling. MOST unlike me, but I decided to look at the other teams run in. I say most unlike me because I am usually only focused on Villa, I don`t really care what other teams do. However, this time, I thought I`d best!

So... as Thorpy has covered the predictions, I`ll just show the upcoming games and will probably get a notice to take it down by the league legal eagles (I kid you not!) then we can move to the doo dah from Thorpy.

Is there a formula for predicting who will avoid the drop?By Michael Da Silva BBC Sport "Ask the manager of a relegation-threatened Premier League club what he thinks of his rivals' chances of avoiding the drop and he will piously insist that 'we can only concentrate on our own performances'. Full article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17317176

Now onto ThorpyUk

Hello fellow Villans! Well it's been a while since I've done one of these - a good 2-3 season in fact when we were chasing champions league football!

Sadly, under McLeish's guidance, we now find ourselves battling for a different kind of reason at the foot of the table, so I've done a little predictor based on results between now and the end of the season. I've tried to be fairly realistic, if slightly on the pessimistic side, and for now i think we'll be safe. That said, if our current competition keep getting freak results, maybe we could very quickly find ourselves in the mire!

Alex Mcleish claims our team that includes Petrov, Bent, Gabby, Ireland, N`zogbia, Albrighton, Given, Bannan, Gardner, Dunne and Collins isn't good enough for anything other than a relegation scrap! (despite saying earlier in the season that anything less than 9th is a failure, and Faulkner's comments about challenging for europe).

Despite this, in a relegation scrap we are! Hopefully Fear can make sense of the fixtures below, and make them look semi-readable for you, but here's my estimated finish positions and points.... I'll endeavour to keep this updated for you as the seasons end pans out!

Final Positions (Estimated)
Villa 37
Blackburn 36
Bolton 36
QPR 33
Wigan 32
Wolves 24

I did the prediction thing on BBC not long back, no matter how bad I made Villa's results, I still had us finishing 15th. There by the grace of teams worse than us below. Not sure I have the courage to re-do it!

I think QPR and Wigan will pick up more points that that. If it was November I would agree but in April and May those teams will pick it up a little. Our key games are Stoke, Sund, Bolton & WBA. If we hit a bit of form and take 6 or 7 points with ideally a win in there vs Bolton then we will be fine. Otherwise its doom & gloom. If only we had managed to play that Bolton game following the Fulham win and before they started winning again, all would have been fine

I'm really not a ranter and don't always come out with the same broken record, but that makes such depressing reading for anyone connected with Villa. The crazy thing is I've got a horrible feeling that his job is safe in Lerner's eyes no matter what happens. Utterly depressing.

I have to agree I think we will just scrape survival but still way too close for my liking! Wigan and QPR have some real tough fixtures so they are my tips to go down. Considering putting a fiver on us to go down though, decent return of £55 and if we should collapse and go down at least there will be one positive! Oh two positives if it results in the sacking of Mcleish!

Let's face it, with the points total Villa will end up with come the seasons end would have gotten them relegated almost every season since the Premier League began. We've been very lucky the other teams down the bottom have been so poor.

Do we know for sure that Eck has a clause giving him loadsacash if he's booted out? You never know maybe the management learnt after the last two to ensure its not in the contract... then again... they do appear to be slightly muppet like in their business dealings...

Well if people are struggling to see where our points are going to come from, then they must be seeing the same when it comes to Wigan and QPR, their fixtures are pretty difficult and if they can get more points from them than we get from ours, plus make up the 5 points we've already got on them, then frankly we deserve to go down! If all goes as expected then Wolves, Wigan and QPR should be the teams going down, let's hope it does for our sake

I've tried to be fairly realistic, but if QPR can do the impossible (in mcleish's eyes) and beat arsenal away, then we'll fall like a hot stone through butter! Lets hope there's a minimum position clause in his contract of maybe 12th, and we can sack him compo-free!

He's getting his relegation ECKSCUSES in already!!!! Unbelievable. This joke needs to end NOW. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Alex-McLeish-admits-I-m-worried-Aston-Villa-could-get-dragged-down-like-Birmingham-did-last-season-article885936.html

Blues were relegated last season with 39 points. Whether we are relegated or not, to finish with less than 40 points is disgraceful for a team like Aston Villa.
