Homegrown Players Will Be Our Foundation

Andi Weimann has said that the homegrown talent in the first team can be the nucleus of the first team squad for years to come.

Speaking to the Official Site after Weimann became the latest youngster to make a name for himself in the first team, he said that our current batch of youngsters know each other that well and work so well together that they can become the mainstay of the first team for the next decade.

forum

This is something we've talked about often on the forum, with the success these lads have had at reserve level and they understanding they have between them, it really would be nice to see them all on the pitch at the same time just to see what affect it would have on our play.

'In the last few years we've won the reserve league most years so that shows we're good, you rely on experienced players because they've played in the Premier League, but we've not got that bit a squad so the manager has to give us a chance. All the younger players are committed to the club because we came up through the youth team and we've been here for a long time. Everyone's heart is in the club, everyone's happy and we're trying to do it for the club as much as for us.'

Experience hasn't got us very far this season, nor indeed did it do much until some seniors could be bothered to earn their wages last season - at least from the youngsters we see effort and desire - which Weimann non so subtly points out.

And yup Gruck, I'm hoping from pre season next campaign we start seeing Benji get some games, but I wouldn't object to a loan spell for a couple of weeks now. He needs to start getting some proper competitive action if he's going to push on.
