Shay Given Hails The Calming Tower Of Cuellar

Shay Given Hails The Calming Tower Of Cuellar

Shay Given has described Carlos Cuellar as 'cool and calm' in defence, adding he's been a towering presence since he returned to the side.

Speaking to the Official Site Given hailed Cuellar's consistency and versatility, and he thinks he's formed a brilliant partnership with Collins since the injury to Dunne:

'He's a great guy around the changing room and since Dunney's been out, him and Ginge have been fantastic. Carlos is very cool and calm on the pitch so he deserves great credit.'

Sod all that, he's also got a fantastic beard when he feels stylish!

The 'Messi-gate' rumbles on though as Given adds:

'You look at the goal at Blackburn when he set up Charles N'Zogbia, there was a little bit of Messi magic on the wing!'

Carlos doesn't seem to have the poise of Mellberg or Laursen when he goes forward (head down, pile through them as the bodies go flying), he is, shall we say, a little bit more 'legs Akimbo' but hey if it works it works so bring on!

In different quotes from the same interview carried by Sky Sports, Given added:

"I'm not sure what is happening about Carlos' contract situation but I hope he does stay here. People say footballers do too much talking, but Carlos is doing all his talking on the pitch. I'm sure that Randy Lerner and Paul Faulkner and the guys that make those decisions have taken big notice of that."

One of the great things that you can never take away from King Carlos is he wears his heart on his sleeve. He might need one of those last second lunging tackles to make up for being off a bit positionally or not reacting quickly enough, but he's consistent, you know exactly what you are going to get and nobody in their right mind would think he is performing better now because the contract is an issue.

What we've seen for the last few games is exactly what we've seen from the first day he joined the club...and that alone should be why he isn't allowed to leave.

Just seen an alternative edit, where Given also says he's sure that Cuellar's recent performances won't have escaped Randy and Paul's attention. Last I heard discussions were taking place but no firm offer had been made yet.

Got to be some sticking point, perhaps he's on a massive MON type contract and we can't afford to offer the same deal?

On friday 16th march I was at perry barr dog track where I spent the evening with family and friends as it is my 45th birthday and when we 1st arrived we were shown to our table and who was on the next table to us? marc albrighton, ciaran clark, eric lichaj, andreas weimann, wee barry bannan and girlfriends, now most of you are probably thinking wow but for me I have come home and I am totally annoyed because as the night went on this group of young lads were a total embarrassment to aston villa football club, throwing their money around and being very loud, banging bottles and glasses on the table, barry bannan is a total *********, within 2 hours he was totally *********d drunk being loud, swearing, saying he was going to be sick on the FLOOR and come the end of the night he was threatening to fight andreas weimann, these young lads are supposed to be the future of aston villa but looking at them tonight I dont hold much faith, they left their table full of drinks and we had a quick recon up and the drinks left behind would cost about £60, DISGRACEFUL.

There's only 1 king Carlos, Chasrack sorry o hear you didn't enjoy your night but i have to say when i was the same age as albrighton clark bannan lichaj and weimann you would have probably found me doing the same as these young lads as to be fair these are still young but they also earn a lot of money aswell, they work hard and as long as they play well for Villa then i am not too worried about them getting drunk as long as its not all the while but bannan should be carefull with his drinking after what already happand to him.

Just wondering what that has to do with King Carlos, chasrock. Back to the editorial...... If they have any sense they'll sign him up ASAP. However, son_of_cher brings up a good point.

Wouldn't be too bothered with that chasrock, they're only a bunch of young 'uns, let them have their fun, they'll grow up pretty quickly if they want to have any future in the game. As for the King, I'd be terribly disappointed if he wasn't given a new contract, but as has been mentioned, maybe there's a sticking point with wages, hopefully that's not the case, would hate to lose him for nothing.

If you agree with that kind of behaviour then you must be classed the same as these jumped up little****s (disrespectful) I was brought up to respect other people unlike some.
