Decent Press TRANSFER Links To AVFC

Decent Press TRANSFER Links To AVFC have picked up on a couple of transfer links for Villa.

The first, mentioned in L`Equipe a regular read in the Fear household, says we are interested in Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud who we have apparently had scouts watching. Others linked include Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Newcastle. He would cost over 15m Euros.

The same report also links us with France U21 international defender Benjamin Stambouli but would have a fight on their hands to get him from Montpellier.

And another link, this one I`ve missed, but in our forum we have a thread: Villa hoping to sign Bas Dost in summer

The People claim we are after 6`5" Heerenveen striker Bas Dost. The 23 years old (well, in May) is a Dutch U21 international and has 22 goals and 8 assists in his 2199 minutes of football for Heerenveen.

Can't see it, not unless Bent is heading for the exit door for a similar sum. Just seem silly to blow all your beans on one player, as I can't see McLeish having much more than 10-15 mil to play with...

Perhaps McLeish is a magician and he'll somehow manage to sell Heskey for loads of cash and replace him with a PROPER target man lol
19/03/2012 13:29:00
ATM I'm not bothered about targets TBH. My main concern during the summer is to get rid of this idiot and get a decent manager in who knows how football should be played, not anti football like what we've had to put up with this season. Get rid of idiot and get a manager in... then get some players that HE wants in.........

As much as we all want it to happen Pride, it won't. (a) Randy won't want to take yet another financial hit on sacking/hiring a manager; (b) Realistically, you'd be looking at compensation paid for a change of manager being taken out of the transfer 'warchest', thus exposing himself to more flak for not investing in the team; (c) McLeish will never walk away from the contract he's got. He's a stubborn man with wild delusions of grandeur in his own managerial abilities.....He'll feel he can do the job, regardless of the catalogues of evidence to dispute that belief. The only way the board will listen is with a significant, and I mean REALLY significant (not just 3 or 4 thousand) drop in season ticket renewals. And I don't think enough people can stay away from VP for a whole season no matter how bad the football is :(
19/03/2012 15:51:00
I know I'm finding it very hard to convince myself not to renew, no matter how angry I am at 4:50 on a Saturday afternoon!!
19/03/2012 15:52:00
looks a big bugger eh!? Why not, got to be a summer of ins and outs, that is for sure.

I think it will be a summer of outs. Heskey, Dunne, Warnock, Petrov, and Bent all going. Hardly anyone coming in as thats what the reserves are for.
19/03/2012 18:27:00
Fear he certainly does look a big bugger that Bas Dost lol, we need a plan B at the moment there is only really heskey as an aerial threat to either come off the bench or start with to flick on for Bent or Gabby, Giroud would be great but can't see us affording that much but Mcleish did say as long as he fits players into the transfer wage structure there is money Randy told him?
19/03/2012 19:07:00
i'd love if we signed Giroud. it's exactly the kind of signing we never make though, and in a couple of years when he's somewhere else and the big clubs are all after him, we'll be left kicking ourselves. Remember when we were linked to Mesut Ozil before he shone at the 2010 world cup? remember when we were linked to Huntelaar before he started scoring as many goals as he has appearances for Schalke? as always we'll no doubt stick to buying other English teams cast-offs and hugely unexciting signings from like Scotland or wherever.
19/03/2012 19:34:00
Callum I remember us being linked strongly with the likes of Falcao also before he really made it big...
