'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ireland Is Mr Versatile

Alex McLeish has said that Stephen Ireland is capable of playing anywhere given his current form.

Speaking to the Official Site McLeish described Ireland as being a 'revelation' in recent weeks and the gaffer thinks he can now perform in any of the forward positions for the club.

'Ireland has been a revelation in recent weeks, when you are playing in the form he is playing in, then moving him out to the left is not a hardship because his confidence looks as if it is back and he came in off the side and played extremely well. When Stevie is in form like that, he can play anywhere.'

Ireland's form recently has certainly been far improved, and Alex is right in terms of commenting on his workrate and Stevie is now getting stuck in when we aren't on the ball. It may have been a long time coming, but he's turning into a very valuable player for us.

I thought he was superb on Saturday and had me thinking we should be building the team around him. Long term I'd like to see Ireland, Gardner and Herd in the middle.

I was very surprised to see he only got a 5 for his performance on Saturday. I also thought he was very good although he did fade in and out a little. COTVABU

Ireland has been brill lately long may it continue, a lot of his work goes unnoticed cause its so simple but he is available for every player 2 pass 2 and drops into the holes as good as any player I've seen, him Gardner and herd would b a formidable midfield for us in the future with bent up front and n'zog and albie as advanced wingers, that's if they ar all willing 2 play for McLoser and if he is willing 2 b that attack minded, all hopes and dreams for now...
