Houllie-Hoop Confusion For Cuellar

It appears to be a quiet news day today as really we should've put Houllier behind us, but this is still quite interesting and I've got to do something!

Carlos Cuellar has told the E&S that he was left confused and bewildered by Gerard Houllier's treatment of him.

Being constantly described as the best defender at the club, but then never being selected to play in the majority games, Cuellar said it left him doubting himself:

'He said in the newspaper 'you are Villa's Jamie Carragher'. He's one of the best defenders, he's the best, that's what he told me and then I didn't play. I don't understand that, you've got the best player for you but you still don't play him?'

Carlos continues by saying that he knows he had a few niggles, but nothing really that would proclude his selection, adding his real injury was 'stress':

'I think the injury I got was like a stress injury, because it's hard when the manager tells you, you are the best defender, I want you to play and then in the next game drops you. Psychologically you think 'there's something wrong with me'. When I tried to find out why, he said 'I've got confidence in you, you are the best, even though you're not playing. You turn crazy, you don't sleep well, you get the stress and you get the small injuries.'

On a much brighter note, following his dazzling run against Blackburn, Cuellar ended with:

'My team mates have been calling me Paulo Maldini!'

Now just think how happier he'd be with a contract offer on the table!

It certainly was a strange time under Houllier, then again it hasn't really been any different under Eck for Cuellar until the Scotsman had little choice but to shake up the pack.

But the fact remains we have always looked more solid when Carlos is on the pitch, so if we want to ship out a defender or two, maybe we should be considering those who let us down every game as opposed to the one who doesn't?!?

Just an idea like.

It is quiet today, not much news at all..... Even quieter in Manchester I'd image. Anyway, at least the best defender at the club is getting game time now. As you say Mike, all thats' needed now is a new contract.

if you want something to do you could get the left sidebar to go back where it belongs........ agreed about CC, he's ace we need to keep him really and as you say ship out them that have let us down.

Carlos was/is as much a victim of the clique, player power and politics at Villa as anyone. Dunne has not been dropped Carlos, he is injured.
