McLeish Looking For Ireland To Step Up

McLeish Looking For Ireland To Step Up

Alex McLeish has said he has challenged Stephen Ireland to fill Robbie Keane's boots now the on loan striker has returned to the States.

Speaking to the herald.ie Eck said that he was looking for Ireland to really kick on now and show that he is as hungry as Robbie Keane was for goals, and he though the Blackburn game was the perfect sign that he was capable of doing it:

'We said before the game that these guys have got to take big responsibility now. It's a great opportunity for these boys to show that they can really be top players for Villa. Robbie was more of a goalscorer who linked the midfield to attack, Stevie's slightly different but we're now challenging him to be as hungry to score goals.'

McLeish added about the Rovers hiccup:

'Stevie was excellent, he was a real thorn in Blackburn's side, but the changes made it more difficult for him to find space in the second half.'

I thought he had perfect space but it's difficult for him to get on the ball when it's travelling 80 yards from defence again.

He was stepping up before Idiot decided to drop him, now he expects him to step up again....... is Idioy for real? Then he goes on aboutBlackburn changing thingsat half time again, and again digging himself a hole because he should of changed things within 15 minutes of the second half..... not 10 minutes before the end.....what a *****!!!!

Hard to know with Eck, he has a great knack of blaming everything from my wife burning my egg to the players. Seems he is faultless (at least in his own mind) I am looking forward to see how we do v Fulham on Sat, it will be my first game at VP (because of expense traveling from Dublin) since the Norwich game. Now I wonder could it also be the first home victory since then? COTVABU

He can't step up if he plays a game, gets dropped, then gets bad mouthed, then plays 15mins, then gets bad mouthed again, misses the next game and then FINALLY plays. He should have started every game he was fit with NZgobia and they'd both be on fire right now, that's bad management by an incompetent manager. Eck out
