Alex McLeish has said Villa need to learn to be more clinical in front of goal after seeing us squander yet another victory today against Blackburn.
Speaking to the Official Site after yet another insipid second half display that everyone and their dog predicted after a decent first half showing, our manager said:
'In the first half we were excellent and played some great football. Steve KJean kicked their backsides at half time, made two changes and they bullied us after the break. It was a long second half, despite that, we did have some chances to put it beyond them.'
He blathers on then about Gabby's header, and the chances that fell to Ireland and Bannan adding:
'My only problem was that we weren't ruthless enough, which has blighted us this season. It's another draw but not for the want of trying, we have set up with an attack minded team. I have played four forwards all season...'
And that is where I lose the will to live.
FOUR forwards, yes a striker on the wing, a striker in midfield, N'Zogbia on the wing when he's lucky enough to get on the pitch and Bent through the middle.
Would he think it sounds better if he says we've played with five strikers all season but one of them was in bloody goal!?
I just really can't be bothered, suffice to say if he predicted Steve Kean's response so well why did it take until the 75th minute when we had been under the cosh all half for him to do something intelligent, like make substitutions in an attempt to break their dominance in midfield?
If you know what the opposition is going to do, why don't you try and counter it instead of watching us get overrun and where everybody knows a goal is coming and then leave the changes too late so they can't get upto speed and make any difference.
No, let's blather on about how I'm not negative and how many forwards I play instead of how I again didn't motivate the players, how I again didn't make useful subs early enough and even when I finally make a change it's rarely ever the right players coming off.
It's all getting rather tiresome and repetitive isn't it. (and that's just me!)
