TRANSFER Talk: 32-Year-Old Injury Plagued Striker?

Neil Moxley at www.dailymail.co.uk has us linked to a summer Bosman move for 32-year-old Croatian International and Bayern Munich striker Ivica Olic.

Neil says the striker is out of contract after 'an injury plagued few seasons`.

His former manager Martin Jol could also be interested in him for Fulham.

The article quotes McLeish on his summer plans, something that will delight most of the Villa faithful!

He said: 'We have already made plans to bring some players in. We have looked at a lot - Bosman signings but of good quality. I've not been able to stamp my own personality on the team yet. But it was something I agreed to. We agreed we would drive the wage bill to a certain level before we started doing business again. So we are doing our homework now because we are being prudent. That's why we are scouting as many good Bosman signings as we can. I'm sure the chairman would sanction big wages again as long as it was kept within our parameters."

'Like I said in January, if somebody coveted one of our players and maybe I had to sacrifice to strengthen other positions, then that's something that could be the way ahead in terms of the plans.'

He also says:

'My message is give me a chance and I'll get it right. I know it's a little bit gloomy at the moment but I definitely believe that Villa will come out of this well.'

Good heavens. Not saying we should be top five or six with this squad but we should be top ten. If he can`t manage this set of internationals then................... You can fill the rest in yourselves, I`m feeling lazy today.

Big wages, 32-years-old, injury plagued. Come on Villa. This is only a rumour but come on. We have to learn from the mistakes made over many years (not just under this owner, not just under this manager) of bringing in old players with no sell on.

So far we have:

IN

Rangers left-back Lee Wallace: click here

Robbie Keane permanently: Click Here

OUT

Stephen Warnock to Sunderland: click here

5 or 6 years ago great Olic would have been a great buy. But not now, please not now.

It's all just paper talk............................isn't it!!!
eltoro
we should be in for Podolski or someone decent with potential... not this old timer..... Has been - go get Keane instead.
leelindsay
There would be no point in having a successful youth policy / reserves if this were true.
Winsforvilla
I just don't know what to think anymore. I genuinely thought that the rumour of the ginger one arriving was total bull***** and look what happened there
Tubbz
Didn't nearly all his supply come from the wings ???????????? Supply Bent and he will score !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.Lets face it he will probably sell Bent to fund his spending, great eh.

I came on to comment on this rumour. This makes my blood boil. I don't know how the transfer market really works and why some players move and others don't. However, why weren't we in for Miroslav Klose, 33 yo and still scoring for Germany? He's five short of Gerd Muellers all-time national team record, and now scoring for Lazio. Why weren't we in for Podolski at Cologne? Cologne, not exactly a 'bigger' club than Villa? Now the Gooners look like they're going to get him. If and when McLeish leaves are Randy and co going to feel out Bielsa at A.Madrid or Mazzarri at Napoli? More likely they'll be looking for another journeyman coach with 'Premier League Experience'. Pathetic. Villa are the biggest club in one of Englands major cities and former European Cup Winners too. The club should be looking at coaches and players worthy of that pedigree. Randy Lerner should get in a Director of Football asap...or somebody, at least, who understands the modern game.
VillaWillRiseAgain
Bielsa is Bilbao not Madrid.
VillaWillRiseAgain
Let me guess, he's 6 foot 8 and loves a long ball. Are we ONLY going for Bosmans aswell??? The embarrassment continues. We don't want to see this tw@ stamp his own personality on our team. Hutton is enough to see the way things will go. Still the media defend him and we're just fussy fans. How has Eck got away with this pretence of being a football manager for so long???
Villan444
What would you expect from this ginger *****!
KerryVillian
Kerry Villan444, to be fair Olic is a top player, albeit he is 32 and he has had injuries, but if he did not he would be still in Bayern Munichs plans and Milan etc would be after him, if he is fit enough he is the type of player who plays off the main striker a bit like keane but olic runs at defenders more also, now this saying Eck would make Ronaldo look poo or Messi with his brand of football so that is another matter ;)

Manager on Phone to Agent (Any Agent) "Is he Cheap ?" If answer No then put Phone down. If Yes then He will Do. Thats McLeish's stamp on future team
kevinl48
Ideal replacement for Heskey - 32, plagued with injuries and spends a lot of time on the bench when not injured. As I say, ideal. Typical Idiot........
Pride of Lions
If you really want to know the future of Aston Villa and their transfer and spending policy you only have to look at the Cleveland Browns Gridiron team.Mr Lerner ownes this team as well and they are a go nowhere do nothing team, AND they have been that way for years.
PussEKatt
no its worse than that Kevinl48 its is he crap ? I will give you 4 mill for him.
Merlin128777
No he is still quality he is one of the hardest working strikers you will ever find gives his all you never regret signing a player like him hell get your other strikers tring harder
