Gabby Has A Chance To Step Up - Again

Bit of Gabby talk today.

Agbonlahor told www.avfc.co.uk that he is fit and raring to go v Blackburn.

I wonder if the rumour that he`s in goal is true?!?!?!? lol

With Bent out, surely this is now Gabby`s chance to get back up front instead of being wasted on the wing?

Gabby action

In his interview with Dan Harrison he starts on about the eye site of players and that a few wear contact lenses... no, honestly, I`m not on the wind up. The jokes I guess will write themselves?!?!

Now he is over his latest injury set back, he is looking to get on tip top form, "With age I think a lot of players add consistency. The older you get, you can reach the same level. That's what you need when you're getting a bit more mature and experienced. For me this season to get that chance that I didn't get last season has been great. Especially being able to show fans what I can still do and am capable of.'

McLeish meanwhile, says now is the time for Gabby to step up.

Gabby tackling

In an interview with Paul Brown on The Official Site he says he thinks Gabby has been 'terrific` this season.

'I'm sure he's very keen to get in among the goals in more of a central role now. I believe he can excel up top. I really do believe he can and he can improve in certain moments during games also. He's maybe not the same type of player as Benty but he's got the speed and the change of direction to score goals at the near post, score goals at the far post and we've seen already some really great goals for the club."

I know, one could question why he is wasted on the wing then, as McLeish had himself said in the summer to our small delegation he knew he wasn`t a winger...but hey, I`m trying to be positive before this crunch game v Blackburn. Gabby has the chance now and needs to grab it, we need a real Captains performance do we not? Whether he has the armband on or not.

in action

McLeish added, 'He has risen to that expectation level and I believe that he can take it to another level.'

He can di it. But I do hope that his chances aren't only one-on-ones's with the goalkeeper! Don't lose you head lad!!

Two or three years ago Gabby was the man. The only reason he needs to step up is because he has been dragged down. I can see him reaching his "average" tally of 14 goals this season with an extended run in the team.

Andy, what average of 14? He has never scored 14 let alone that being his average. His highest tally is 13 League goals. He’s been poor for the last 4-5 months. And poor again today.
