Alex McLeish has been talking to Matt Kendrick at www.birminghammail.net
Alex knows that no team is too good to just assume they will stay up and obviously, we are in line for a run of four CRUCIAL games. Wigan, Blackburn, Fulham and then Bolton (which I think will be mid week before the trip to Arsenal)
McLeish says they aren`t complacent adding "Everybody`s fighting extremely hard and you can`t take anything for granted in this league, just because of the name of your club - that doesn`t guarantee anything."
Adding, "It`s down to the players you put on the pitch, how much they want it for the club and for themselves."
He says you can`t just expect to turn up and win v Wigan, or any other team.
He also hints at giving some of the younger players a chance having impressed in the reserves.
"We will look possibly at using some of the guys who have played in the reserve games and it`s not a case of trying to do something different in the first team - just do what you have been doing in the reserves. They have been playing against athletic players in last three reserve games against Fulham, Wolves and West Brom and the players have looked very, very good."
Oh hang on, sorry, no, the cautious head re-appears, he probably won`t do that until we reach 40 points and safety. Damn, in my opinion the senior players haven`t done it very often for us, I`d rather give the chance to some players who give a damn!
"We want to climb the table, the next three games are extremely important, a lot of the attributes we are requiring from those games is commitment, total commitment. I have always said if you show that total commitment the quality will follow. They have that quality. That has to be a must.``
As Lawro said on the BBC site... 'I just feel they might be better if McLeish lets them off the leash a little bit and plays to their strengths. Maybe they are not creating enough chances, because Darren Bent will score if you give him the opportunity. So why don't they go for it?'
