Bent Happy To Do The Dirty Work

Bent Happy To Do The Dirty Work

Darren Bent has said he is happy to roll his sleeves up and do the dirty jobs for Villa.

Speaking to the Official Site Bent said he was happy playing his part in leading the line, holding the ball up and closing down defenders.

'I know I'm more than capable of doing it. It's something I've had to adapt to and something I've had to get better at. I know it's not the strongest part of my game, but it's just another string to my bow really.'

Bent adds that he realises he's the first line of defence for the team, and that chasing down defenders can bring it's own reward if they make a mistake.

Or maybe we can just play entire team to their strong point, evolving around Bent mainly, and win a few games? We have a 20+ goal scoring per season striker and we are turning him into a Heskey per Season striker.

I'd rather you stay clean, up front and score us loads of goals please. Any decent manager would get 20 goals min with Benty in their side, he did it at Carlton?!?! ECK OUT

Some real magic to make a prolific striker into a hard working striker. Good job!

Bent is a joke as a player. All he can do is finish inside the box. Admittedly he does that very well but "more strings to the bow"!! Should've worked this out a long long time ago. Can't hold up atall and is useless in the air. For a striker of 28 years, if he can't do it already, it is very likely too late.

Good one Villan444. No point supporting him when he's proven himself more than capable of doing what a striker should do best. So he comes out and says he's trying to improve something he knows isn't the best in his game, so you rip him. Made me proud to be a Villa(I)n that did.

To be fair to Villan444 thats what Collymore said when Benty first signed for us - and everyone shouted the Talksport presenter down.

Stating facts Jonny. Bent is as 1 dimensional and simple as theo Walcott. I can see where managers could play him in a certain formation but Eck obviously can't. Wouldn't get in my team as surely you want someone who is multi talented rather than sit on the goalie's lap all game. Gabby over him all day for me.... I'll support the bloke and as I said, he definitely has his talenT but he's so good at finishing that he never bothered doing anything else and if he wasn't such a simpleton, he would've worked this out a long time ago because you've got to have more than plan A. And for me his only talent is wasted in our formation every week, therefore he's a passenger.

Where would we be without his goals since he signed?? hes a striker, he scores, the same people moaning that "this is all he can do" are the same people that bemoan heskey for being a striker that cant score "strikers are judged on goals" no wonder we are classed as fickle
