Gary Gardner Calls On The 12th Man
Well, people have been waiting for Gary Gardner to burst onto the scene and this season, he has done so.
Now he is asking for the fans to do what they do best, be the 12th man and stick with the team.
Must say, it would be lovely. As one of many who did 12th man campaigns last season, I`m not sure I have the energy this year and also, with the amount of anger around, I`m not looking to take any more flack! Plus, I do believe the players also owe the crowd a spark as well. Look how the fans reacted when the players woke up v QPR.
But it is a two way street and the players DO feel the atmosphere and it DOES make a difference. It filtered back to me and Grant last season (we tried to get the bells are ringing back... there were others doing stuff as well) the players felt relieved as before they felt every time they ran out on the pitch everyone hated them.
Yes, they are on good money, of course that helps. But at the end of the day, half of the team are just 'kids` and the others are (mostly?!?!) humans who do get affected by the boos, groans and the abuse some shout their way.
Surely boos, if needed at all, could wait until the end of the game? Not sure of the point of going down to support Villa if you don`t support them?
You support the team, you support AVFC, not the manager don`t you?!
Gardner told The Express & Star
"There`s disappointment obviously but our message is 'stick with us`. If they can stay with us, that will help. We`d be nothing without the fans and we want them right behind us."
He also says if the fans stay behind the team, they will look to repay us and bring the success we all want.
"It`s only a matter of time before we get back on track. If we keep showing that togetherness, we will be fine. A lot of the fans are worried about us getting sucked down but we`re confident that won`t happen."
Ok, so some of you will top listening with this line I guess!!!!!!! Not my fault, so don`t shoot the messenger!
"We have a class manager, class staff and class players. I know it`s frustrating when we lose games but we need to come through it together - all as one. I`m confident we will bounce back now."
Next four games are totally pivotal, we can`t not pick up points v Wigan, Blackburn (both away) as well as home games v Fulham and Bolton. Maybe we try to stay awake during the games and cheer for just those four, then fine, if all is still not well, the calls for the managers head will be the most important thing to focus on I guess!
