'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RIP Eamonn Deacy

The club and fans alike have been saddened by the news that former player Eamonn Deacy has passed following a heart attack earlier this morning.

The 53 year old made 39 appearances for Villa, found the net once, and will forever be remembered by the faithful for being one of the cherished 14 used during our Championship campaign in 1980-81, where he made 5 appearances.

Speaking to the Official Site Ken McNaught paid tribute to his teammate.

'He was great company, the kindest bloke on the planet and a top professional. He was so proud of the team's success but he was a modest man, I can't highlight enough the massive contribution he made.'

McNaught's words are well worth a full read for some good memories and comments of Deacy's time at the club and the type of man he was.

I'm a tad too young to have really known him on the pitch, but it's clear from the words of those of us slightly wiser that he'll forever be a part of our history. Forum Thread

Rest In Peace Eamonn, from us all.

RIP. Sad sad news.
The Fear
I remember him very well. Maybe not the most talented player in the side but the opposing winger would definitely know he'd been in a game. He never shirked a tackle and the fans loved him. R.I.P.

RIP - i remember him well too wasn't he the one who never got a medal because of the amount of games played?

i remember him well and it is at times like this when you look at vastly over paid players who couldnt give a hoot about the Villa, RIP a true gent
