Frustration Turns To Anger & Annoyance For McLeish

Frustration Turns To Anger & Annoyance For McLeish

Alex McLeish was frustrated and disappointed following the Newcastle game, he's now watched it back again and he's angry and annoyed.

After watching the game again in more detail Alex is very clear on what we are doing wrong in defence and whilst he says we have to start defending ugly to get the basics right (most would argue our defence is already playing ugly and that's the problem) it's obvious he wants more effort from the players when we lose the ball.

Speaking to the Official Site Eck said.

'I'm more annoyed and angry than anything else now. We played ever so well in parts of the game, yet we conceded such soft goals again. Whether it's sloppiness with defenders or we're just going through one of those spells where everything falls to the opposition?'

A season long spell?

'We don't close down a throw in, something as simple as a throw in! We have got to be prepared to die to stop balls coming in from the sides. We have let too many of them in this season and it was a problem last season aswell. All I can do is keep working on it, it's frustrating.'

He also less than subtly hints that the 5 internationals at the back need to start showing why they are internationals.

Great, he's finally figured it out. Baby steps but we're getting there...wherever there is. What does defending ugly mean anyway?

I think defending ugly means they can't defend by just defending as defenders. Defending ugly I assume is playing rough, getting booked, sent off.... anything to stop these crosses coming in. Should be right up Muttons' street!

Why don't we worry about scoring 5 at the other end, then a mistake or 2 is meaningless???

Not being funny but these comments could have been said after the majority of our games this season. Hutton is yet to have a "Good" game where he looks good going forward and defensively. Dunne and Collins have been poor for two season. Warnock, well, I can't talk about him anymore, he's beyond any help from anyone, his performances make me physically sick! Perhaps McLeish should have said these comments during the game and at half time, instead of singling out the work rate of N'Zogbia & Ireland. By the way, if nobody noticed, Ireland was the one who tracked back and won the ball to create the move for our goal and N'Zogbia got the assist. How Alex could single them both out and not mention Warnock, Dunne or Hutton is unbelievable!

agree villan444, we should be scoring at least 5 every game, cant see why we dont to be honest, keepers should just let them in, how dare they stop us winning games

Im with Eck at the moment, performaces have improved lately.. Its the defence letting him down again and again. This City game could be a right humping but im still going for a Villa win though!
