Frustration Turns To Anger & Annoyance For McLeish

Alex McLeish was frustrated and disappointed following the Newcastle game, he's now watched it back again and he's angry and annoyed.

After watching the game again in more detail Alex is very clear on what we are doing wrong in defence and whilst he says we have to start defending ugly to get the basics right (most would argue our defence is already playing ugly and that's the problem) it's obvious he wants more effort from the players when we lose the ball.

Speaking to the Official Site Eck said.

'I'm more annoyed and angry than anything else now. We played ever so well in parts of the game, yet we conceded such soft goals again. Whether it's sloppiness with defenders or we're just going through one of those spells where everything falls to the opposition?'

A season long spell?

'We don't close down a throw in, something as simple as a throw in! We have got to be prepared to die to stop balls coming in from the sides. We have let too many of them in this season and it was a problem last season aswell. All I can do is keep working on it, it's frustrating.'

He also less than subtly hints that the 5 internationals at the back need to start showing why they are internationals.

Great, he's finally figured it out. Baby steps but we're getting there...wherever there is. What does defending ugly mean anyway?

He`s right, simple errors by players are costing us.

Strange how the same things happen to the same manager ALL ******** season and at EVERY club he's been at. I can't work it out???????????

I think defending ugly means they can't defend by just defending as defenders. Defending ugly I assume is playing rough, getting booked, sent off.... anything to stop these crosses coming in. Should be right up Muttons' street!

Why don't we worry about scoring 5 at the other end, then a mistake or 2 is meaningless???

Not being funny but these comments could have been said after the majority of our games this season. Hutton is yet to have a "Good" game where he looks good going forward and defensively. Dunne and Collins have been poor for two season. Warnock, well, I can't talk about him anymore, he's beyond any help from anyone, his performances make me physically sick! Perhaps McLeish should have said these comments during the game and at half time, instead of singling out the work rate of N'Zogbia & Ireland. By the way, if nobody noticed, Ireland was the one who tracked back and won the ball to create the move for our goal and N'Zogbia got the assist. How Alex could single them both out and not mention Warnock, Dunne or Hutton is unbelievable!

agree villan444, we should be scoring at least 5 every game, cant see why we dont to be honest, keepers should just let them in, how dare they stop us winning games

Im with Eck at the moment, performaces have improved lately.. Its the defence letting him down again and again. This City game could be a right humping but im still going for a Villa win though!

Look these same defenders have let us down before Eck was manager, so blmafor warnock (who was emitted from the squad by GH) dunne and collins well what can i say apart from Clowns! we have been playing better, but whenyou have a poor defence you got no chance, we need a clearout in the summer and rebuild a proper defence!

Defend, defend, defend, fight, fight, fight!! It's your job to install that into them instead whinging to us all the time McJoke?! A manager installs that spirit and your clearly not able too. Continued comments like this don't help anyone and to me the players have no faith in you. Your job is to make players feel they are better than really are. Anyway all I ever hear is we should try harder and tackle more etc etc etc. Never hear any comments about positive football, about getting the ball down and keeping it, about pushing forward in numbers and creating. After all you love free flowing attacking football more than anyone don't you? And for the NZogbia twitters comments and Ireland photo thing... "In my day this wouldn't happen" etc etc etc!! This isn't your day mate, wake up!! Yeah twitter sucks but it's your job to deal with all these issues but you just moan and complain. Way to go installing belief and confidence in us and the players. No idea, go back to Scotland and come 3rd with Rangers!!!!!

benny003, so you really think protesting at a time we are not safe from relegation is the best way really??? well done to you sir,of course your right as it won't affect the players will it?

like i have said before, Mcleash is an easy target questioning Randy and the board on the poor decisions that have got us here in the 1st place is not, whats villa's future? nothing is said to us on what to expect we just all speculate as usual, but sooner or later either with Mcleash as manager or some other one just like GH before Mlceash all this is hiding the true state we are in.

Anyone notice that the Barcodes keeper was included in the team of the week for his performance against us? We were unlucky, we played well, individual errors cost us, that's it.

it has been the defence all season. Dunne & Collins look like they are leaning against a bar in a pub. Warnock is messed up.

So tell me then clive, what would you do if you order a meal in a restaurant & it turns up under cooked & cold? I'm guessing you'd want to speak to the boss & make a complaint!!! or would you just keep your mouth shut & hope the pudding is ok??? I'm guessing you'd want to speak to the boss & make a complaint!!!! Do i need to say anymore. This is the only way fans who spend their hard earned cash can be heard. Although for me it should be Lerner & the board who are targeted. If we say nothing then they just think we're all happy & carry on serving up the same old dross.

benny003, and all i am saying is its easy targeting Mcleish, i mean for pigins sake not one of the board Faulkner Randy anyone even sat next to him on his official appointment live on sky sports news? That proved to me then Mcleish is here to take the heat of them as all the anger would be vented at Mcleish as we all knew he was not good enough from the start, if you lookat my posts i wanted us to protest but agreed when Fear said to me in december its got to be the right time! i do not see now as the right time just could have waited til we was safe or a great excuse when we go on a losing run 3 matches or so, instead Mcleish can say fans protests have affected the players etc IMO, but Randy and co are getting off scotch free for this poor decision IMO, but i am not saying those who protest are bad fans no way, we have all a right to say we are not happy, i have never been so bored and so sad as the swansea defeat etc, but i would have more respect for this protest if it was aimed at the board aswell as Mcleish and the timing was when we were safe from relegation!

I agree with Stef, we really went for the win, they defended well and as Stef pointed out; their goalie had a great game. Give the team it's due when deserved. We were also unlucky against Arsenal, our goals were class, theirs were scrappy, scrappy is difficult to defend against.

Clive i do agree with most of what you're saying, especially about Lerner & the board getting away scott free. But you say wait until we are safe!!! My question to you is, what do we do if we can't get safe. By then its to late, surely you can understand this. I'm sure like me you would not fancy a trip to Doncaster or Hull next year? To be perfectly honest mate i don't think it would affect the players either, because i'm sure that they know how passionate we all feel about our club especially Gabby, Gardener,& Albrighton as they have all stood on the Holte before, & its not as if they are being targeted is it. But having said all that, i don't think the idiots who run the club will take note either, weather we protest now or at the end of the season (when they're all in Monaco on their big fancy yachts.
