Protests. Right Or Wrong?

Right, looks like some are organising manager protests for before the Man City game.

I`m not linking to the site because a) I`ve not been asked to b) they`ve not put their name to the protest.

For me, if you are going to protest, like some of us did re: Doug, you have to put your name to it, you have to stand up and be counted, not hide behind a keyboard and you have to have a spokesman for all the press stuff (and to take all the abuse and pee taking that follows)

However, it is an interesting debate on our forum: Click Here and I thought it would make a good poll.

Should protests be done now?

Surely the stay away attendance figures spell out the feelings without unsettling an already very de-stabilised season?

would rather we get safety first but it is down to each individual really. Never protested about managers, don't think I'll start now, but am not keen on this season at all!

No protests for me..No point at this stage of the season..not happy with McLiesh but I have seen a definite improvement in attacking intent over the past few games..we have been let down by indiviodual poor defensive mistakes..Let's reach the 40 point mark before we do anything to 'rock the boat'...

Pointless. Not going to change a thing. The attendances at VP say it all, Randy must know already we're not happy, but nothing is going to change until the summer, if at all.

It probably won't change a thing but they have every right to protest. The Mcliesh reign is possibly the most bleak I have ever experienced and that's saying something when you consider we also had to put up with DOL and GT not so long ago. There's no point slagging off the fans who want to protest (as some are on other villa sites) because that will only cause a divide. We need to respect each others views and rights and stick together. There's also no point in defending Mcliesh at all. I'm sorry but to suggest we have looked more potent up front in recent matches is irrelevant seeing as those few outstanding performers now seem to be the players in some sort of revolt after sunday. There's also no point in defending his tactics. We have a great team that are capable of winning while paying attractive football. Yet the same 3 players in defence let us down. Mcliesh has shown he doesn't have the guts to make the changes needed. We have alternative defensive options on the bench (and even one currently playing in midfield) yet the same full backs and dunne start every single game.

I think protests are unnecessar . It wont help the team and we beat Citeh last season at home. If the fans protest the players heads drop - which can't help our position in the league. It's a stupid idea IMO. If you want to protest, go do it out side the ground, but not on a match day.

The only thing that might get a result is a complete boycott. Not sure enough will have have the appetite for this yet. See the sense in waiting until we're safe, but what if that doesn't happen? Will be too little too late. As for upsetting the players, don't think they could be much more upset.

protests are futile (blackburn, Newcastle, Man Ure, red scouse etc prove that), still it would require the keyboard campaigners to actually turn up at VP so it might not be a bad thing.

He brought in Hutton, the only defender at VP who makes Warnock look OK. Sorry, I really wanted to give him a go, wanted it to be a success, etc etc - but how much more damage can we sustain? Seems a decent bloke as well - I'm surprised he's not done the decent thing and said "I gave it my best, but it's just not worked out. Good luck, and godbye".

There is only one effective form of protest and that is staying away however difficult that may seem. Nothing gets the attention of a board of directors more than seeing that the product they are offering is not good enough, you wouldn't return to a shop that gave you consistently awful service! No difference AVFC are in the entertainment industry and fans pay a lot of money to see their team perform and if they don't on a regular basis then they have every right to either boycott or at least see some efforts to address the problem.

I agree with shark133, so no surprise there. The men in white coats mentioned by Villan444 yesterday have not shown up at home yet and I have seen no coherent arguement to make me believe that McLeish deserves all of the nonsense he is getting. Still, it is reported that Sir Alex was one or so games away from the sack once and others have had similar dips in fortune and come through it. I just wonder at the arrogance of some fans who believe they know best when they don't even know the full facts under which the club is operating. UTV.

cynicalalone - effective? How? All boycotting VP has done is make the place duller, less atmospheric and less intimidating for visiting teams, all in all contributing to poor results at home. There will always be "too many" fans did will attend the games, the attendances have been poor but I can't see them dropping much more below 30,000, and therefore I can't see the board being that bothered. I do think in theory it's a better form of protest but there will never be enough fans boycotting to make a real difference.

I objected to Mcleish's appointment as soon as it was rumoured. However, we are where we are. We cannot afford to be changing managers at this point. Poor as he is, all we can do is soldier on and hope that the end of the season does not bring relegation. Once we get to that point the whole picture changes. I will certainly not be renewing my season ticket while he remains in charge. I cannot bear the non football he serves up every week. Fickle, I suppose some will call me. OK, that's their opinion but, for me, enough is enough. We are already seeing his effect: 10,000 empty seats. When that rises to 15,000 or 20,000 next season and we are, once again, playing football to slit your wrists to, maybe, just maybe, our board will start taking notice.

Look at how changing managers has benefitted Sunderland midseason Teapot. Surely you'd rather he went before next year so you could renew?? Gordon, Sir Alec had already won European cups with Aberdeen ( or similar) and all Eck could do was finish 3rd in a 2 horse race in Scotland. Boycotting has been ineffective as lots have already bought ST's so their attendance is counted regardless. The rest are being oppressed, I mean if this was happening at Liverpool or Manure, it would be all over the news. Ireland's F Off to Eck was hardly even mentioned in the press, no-one cares about us apart from us and we need to stand up to the powers that be.

Agree with Villan444. We are slowly slipping. We play Arsenal, Man city and Chelsea in our next 7 fixtures. The rest are bottom half teams. Normally I would look at 12 points being picked up in the other 4 fixtures but we've done nothing to suggest we are even capable of brushing supposed lower opposition aside comfortably so far this season. If things continue the way they have recently we could be right down there by April. Those 3 points we picked up at Chelsea are looking huge right now. Yes he's got us passing the ball better recently but that should be a given with the talent that this team is potentially bursting with. Can't believe we has so many anti Houllier fans last season (where the football was actually getting much better) and this season there seems to be a lot of fans sitting on the fence putting up with this crap being served up along with his terrible post match blaming tactics. It's ridiculous. In my opinion any sort of protest is a month too late now but they have every right to voice their concerns. This situation is certainly not going to get the kind of media coverage that the "bigger" teams would be getting.

I would prefer we reach 40 points before any protests or negative impact is felt as i think there is enough of that down at VP already? What concerns me the most is these unruley players we have that have been letting Villa down for 2 seasons now, Dunne Collins and Warnock, these players have caused player unrest scored own goals gave away penalties poor defensuve displays etc by turning on Mcleish now, you are showing these trouble causers they can stay as when a new manager comes in he wipes the slate clean and it starts all over again!

They will have absolutely no effect whatsoever. Do you think randy and mcleish didn't know there may be protests? They knew there was the possibility of unrest and anger. Randy did not appoint him to then sack him half a season in when the fans started to voice their opinion. We are stuck in this situation and for now there is nothing we can do. Right now the players are not at all high on confidence and despite some promising signs and good spells things just haven't gone our way. They need us, our support and for us to be making the right noises! Do your duty and get behind the team in the right way, if we don't things will get a hell of a lot worse!

Eck doesn't get any better Lion Heart, he will not change his style at his ripe old age. brutal facts. Getting behind the team is irrelevant. Feel sorry for the players as they have done nothing wrong. Boycott or banner or sit like a sheep and happy clap any old tosh that's served up just cos they're wearing a claret and blue shirt!! I really would join in if we gave ourselves a chance of winning but as everyone knows, we're playing not to lose. Okay for the first 5 games of a season but you've actually got to do it like Spuz against Liverpool. Not lose and still be happy to sit back. Who is he going to bring in to his defensive lineup to help them out. Even the Lord McGrath couldn't help this idiot. Eck would play 9 McGraths and tell them all to hoof it to Bent if he had the choice. We wouldn't concede but we wouldn't score either. Banners out for Eck Out although I'm a hypocrite, I refuse to go to VP whilst he's in charge and you can't really put banners up away from home.

Ok, it may have no effect but what we going to do.... sit back and accept an idiot, watch crap football, read the idiots excuses every week ffs ........

I think protests now are both too late and too early, there should have been protests before january but now its too late so we should wait till we are safe and granted that might not happen as ECKs record is a proven loser, and any fans defending ECK are deluded, all these fans blame the players and while they are correct the players are nthe ones making mistakes its down to the manager to FIX those mistakes and/or drop the players which has not happened its the same excuses after every game and these mistakes have been happening since the 1st game of the season its not like he hasn't had time to fix these stupid mistakes, if any fan believes this guy can bring us forward or even not put us into further decline please tell me where is your proof?? cause the proof that things are only going to get worse is obvious for all to see, except the ones with their eyes cosed and head up their arse!

Totally agree villan444 but i still think that Lerner's name should be up there right next to Mcleish's when the banners are made. How else are fans gonna let people know that they're not happy. At least this way it gets media attention. When was the last time you heard the media reporting on gate losses at Villa Park???

Good point Benny, Lerner spent (or allowed others to spend) too much and now we've got to put up with bare survival and leftover scraps of decent football once a month for 10 minutes because the billionaire didn't know how to manage his money very well. There could be a way back for him if he changed the personnel in management but there's definitely no way back for Eck he has to go!! A Lerner out banner or 2 would make him take notice!!

Spoken to the guy who has arranged it and fair play to him. Its his right as it is for people who dont want to be part of it. I cant stand Mcleish and the stats simply dont lie. We are not safe from relegation until mathematically we cannot be caught. With our run in March/April we could be in serious trouble. Unfortunately this particular protest is a month too late. And I will be shocked if the club allow it to go ahead as well as comment on it.

Bottom line is the only opinion that would have change is Randy Lerners. This may be cynical but I do not believe protests,a few thousand down on the gates etc will make any difference to him.Only thing which may change his mind is a major drop in the overall value of AVFC and sadly this would not be good for our football club.
