The Reason Ireland Was Subbed? (Update)

The reason Ireland was subbed:

McLeish furious with Ireland for not cutting out cross. Told him so then Ireland 2x shouted back F-off to his manager. #avfc

(from match thread in forum)

Updated.

shouldn't really do something like that from an ipad whilst watching the game.

For balance, he could of course have been taken off for an injury or tactical reasons. I believe some are saying an ankle injury now.

Nevertheless, the constant micro managing by Peter Grant and Alex McLeish have produced a few angry responses from players this season, including a few choice words.

I'd be more happy IF Ireland did say eff off that Eck was able to ignore and deal with it at a later stage to be honest, so maybe it was an injury.

Or is that too convenient following this!?

I remember years back Stevie Stone telling John Gregory to 'shut the eff up' during a game. JG folded his arms, thought for a while then said "you're alright you are Stoney" !

That's the way to deal with these things! LOL

Eck has also responded:

"I never saw the eff-off thing," McLeish said in his post-match press conference. "I know he spoke back but at the same time players don`t normally hear the manager screaming at them from the touchline.

"But I kick every ball with them. I am passionate; I care. And I wouldn`t be so petty to take a player off for something like that if he is doing a fantastic job.

"But Stevie had an ankle problem. He wasn`t able to close down. When Guthrie sidesteps him to put the cross in I thought it was just too easy and that Stevie should have been making that tackle and at least putting a block on the cross.

"But it was clear at half-time that he did not have the capacity to get close to people. His touch was still great at certain times but at this level you need players with the legs and energy.

"If you want to look at everyone`s lip-reading I am sure if you want to look at everyone`s lip-reading I am sure you will get a few more and you could get another story from it if you want but it is a trivial question. I am not even discussing it. It is a ridiculous question."

So there you go, the reporter was right, it did happen, but that isn`t why Eck subbed him.

Collymore reporting that it wasn't only Ireland giving McLeish stick - a big chunk of our team were doing it.

He also tweeted: Couldn't believe how many Villa players were back chatting to McLeish through the game. Can't be very healthy.. "

WHERE did this come from?
reza
If he did tell him to ***** off then good on him. Eck should F**K OFF!
Green Villan
Ireland was right.
magicmerson
I thought Ireland played well.
M5villa
As much as I want AM sacked, that's not on if true. He's put faith in Ireland when most had written him off, he should show some loyalty even if Eck is a total p***.
SchoolBoyError
so there goes keane's replacement !!!
marshyboy87
Ireland has been the most hard-working player on the pitch recently, I'd be *****ed off if I was him, too.
monsters
If true, Eck was right.
Gordonsleftboot
that substitution totally killed us, Ireland was playing well but as we know our manager likes to single people out, if Ireland had my temprement he would have chinned the useless f.u.Ck. Cost us the game. At 65 mins it was plain to see we were getting overrun but he waited until 80 mins to do anything about it, totally inept.
Lionheart2010
Ireland was playing well, but if true he should be disciplined. That's not on. Don't understand why N'zogbia was taken off???
VILLA 4 LIFE
Really hope this isn't true. Ireland has improved a lot and certainly makes us pass the ball on the deck. If it is true I don't think he will be playing for a while.
Lion Heart
If that is true, Ireland has just got my Player of the Year vote. Pity we don't all get together and endorse what Ireland is supposed to of said!
Pride of Lions
Not having Ireland right side led to their winner..cos wee Barry is very poor off the ball and didn;t give Hutton the cover he needed
krfeskivilla
ireland was playing well. Eck doesnt know it, but the whole team probably asked him to ***** off.
Gruck
Mcleish said that he was carrying an ankle injury, nothing to do with swearing. Wouldn't believe some journo tbh, make anything up for a decent story.
P.Avfc
Bald self important *****. He should have cut out the cross the stupid ****. Go and stick your shisha pipe up your arse.
lerneravfc
That wasn`t aimed at you fear.
lerneravfc
Apparently there were loads of players giving Mcleish lip all thru the game, finally losing the dressing room maybe, his ineptitude is plain for all to see. I dont dislike him cos he was at the blues, I dislike him cos he is totally out of his depth at this level and I fear we could be playing in his comfort zone (championship) soon unless there is a parting of the ways.
Lionheart2010
They sabotaged houllier too. He needs his own players in who want to olay for him. These miserable dreggs from the o`neill era have to go.
lerneravfc
lerneravfc..he will get his own players if we go down, I`d rather we just got a manager who can manage at this level.
Lionheart2010
At least Eck know about scrapping back to the Premiership, may come in handy next season.
col8
Be funny If Ireland was man of the match!!
col8
Is this gospel?
TheSaucyVicar
Why is it always the managers fault? If a player hasnt done his job then surely as a boss he is entitled to have a go at him and tell him to get his act together. If Ireland has failed to cut a cross out or make it difficult for the ball to go into the box then he as let us down, like they seem to be doing every week. Yes the manager carries te can but, does AMc tell Dunne to miss the cross for e 2nd goal? Does AMc tell Bent to miscontrol the ball almost everytime it goes upto him. Ireland has improved of late and that is all. I aint buying this playing great stuff, he has been better but there is still lots to do for him to convince me he is the man to help us out. Do we know where this stuff has come from anyway? It broke while the game was still going on so news travels fast if it is true.
whvilla
So sky reporting he was subbed due to an ankle injury must be a lie then. Must not believe a word sky say but put 100% faith in Twa tter.
nazvfc
not gospel no thesaucyvicar but unusual for a reporter to just makes something totally up? He might have picked up an injury but a fair few games where I sit I've seen players shouting back and arguing with their micro management. Did that from my ipad so didn't do the link as a working link, will correct that now so you can see!

"I am not discussing it", after talking about it for 5 mins. Can't believe that Eck has the cheek to keep blaming people for minor errors when we are shocking. If the cross was cut out, we'd have drawn. We want to ******** win McLeish you stupid idiot. Who's fault is it that we are so poor, Eck's alone
Villan444
Bannan is too small/slow/weak/one dimensional. He's not a bloody winger either FFS. Heskey comes on and we hoof it to him to flick on which is all that he can do. Bent can only poach and wasted so many outlet opportunities by aimlessly jumping in a feeble attempt to flick on. I'm tired of these 1 dimensional players.
Villan444
I was driving up from a weekend away in Bournemouth and listening to it on Talsport. Apparntly Keane was ******** fuming at the hoof balls that kept going over his head too. The touchline reporter also said that Ireland told McLeish to ***** off.
jonah
I asked, "Is this gospel" and I have my answer. Unless 2 plus 2 makes 5 makes a better story or gets more hits of course.
TheSaucyVicar
Seemsto me Eck is losing or lost the dressing room for sure, how many times did players tell MoN to eff off?
clivethevillan
At clivethevillan. Reo Coker tried it in training and got a full nelson from o'neil for his troubles....
ByEck
Take your choice it doesnt matter either way. Carrot top needs to go so does the whole back 4.
Merlin128777
get rid of both of them. Both idiots.
leelindsay
makes no difference what Ireland said or didn't say. The fact that Mcleish acknowledges that players don't like to have their manager screaming at them from teh sidelines but then does it anyway shows what an absolute ***** the bloke is
AVbornandbred
Stephen Ireland, the voice of the villa fan. Would love to have the opportunity to say the same to his face.
fulford
LOL fulford, that would look great on a banner this weekend!!!
Villan444
Ireland did't defend the cross well enough, jesus ECK what a Fing surprise an attcking player that can't defend so you blame him for your stupidity, also again in the interview what does he say we need to do?? oh ya the same as all year DEFEND BETTER ******** tit!
