Bent Flattered By Liverpool Interest

Bent Flattered By Liverpool Interest

Darren Bent has said he was flattered by the speculation linking him to Liverpool, but he always knew he would be staying at the Villa.

Speaking to the E&S Benty said.

'The speculation? It was laughable, I always knew I was going to be at Villa. I have said before, I would like to stay at Villa for years and really kick on. I am delighted to be here, you laugh it off and get on with it. It is flattering, but it never crossed my mind once to leave.'

Now I know we have a tendency to get these kinds of quotes from players and then - cough Downing - they slap in a transfer request and show themselves to be totally disrespectful.

Time will tell whether Bent is a mercenary or whether he has the respect of a Barry or a Young.

Because we all know the summer will be full of speculation again. But for now, goals in games on the trot are what matter and long may that run continue.

I prefer the Sky Sports headline, Bent - 'move to Liverpool was laughable'! I wish he had left it at that! I also think it would have been better said before 3rd Feb (i.e. once the move could not happen). As you say, he is looking on form so long may it continue! I hope he gets 100 goals for Villa

He seems genuine enough but words mean very little these days. Bent will stay at villa if he continues to get chances and we progress as a team. So over to Mr Lerner to show some ambition in the summer.

Downing did a lot of damage to the way I see players, but MON was a s**t.

To be fair to Bent, he couldhave easily handed in a transfer request as we had been playing poorly, no money to add new players i kinda would have understood TBH, but it would still have hurt as i don't think we could aford or attract another 1 in 2 striker.

Bent is a class player, we really would not want to lose him, granted he does not defend or run around like a headless chicken but he scores goals, something I have not seen at villa for years and years, give him the ball and he will score or at least put pressure on the opposition .

For what it's worth I think he's genuine. He knows the tradition. He's got the number 9 shirt, something he's never had before. He knows if he stays here he will become an absolute legend. He could SO easily get another 100 goals if he stayed here for another 5 years. I wouldn't bet against him getting 20 goals this season. He's already said he wants to beat Yorke's Prem goal tally which would make him the Villa player who's scored the most PL goals. There are plenty of records just within grasp already. Stay Darren, Become the greatest Aston Villa striker EVER!! It's possible. UTV!!

Agree Adam, he should be supported as much as possible, let us all show him that we love him in the team, a true goal scorer at last for us, he has already saved us from relegation once, thank god we had him last year, UTV
