'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ireland Pleased With Response Of Fans

Stephen Ireland has said he's delighted with how the fans have taken to him and he's been pleased with the improvement in his own form recently.

Speaking to the Official Site Ireland talked about the fans chanting his name in the game against Everton (where he was voted MotM), and he knows that sort of performance is the benchmark for him at the club.

'That felt good, and it felt overdue, as well. It was what I've wanted to create since I came to the club. Now I have the chance to show the fans what I can do and build up a bit of a reputation, I'm hoping I can continue to grow. The fans seem to want me to do well and I feel I've earned that because I've been working hard to earn respect from them.'

It's nice to see Ireland acknowledge that he had to win us over, and it has been very nice to see him putting in the performances we all thought we were capable of seeing from him. It's a shame he's taken so long to settle and get a run, but at least we are seeing the business from him now.

Have always had a soft spot for stevie, even when he was being slated by many villa fans, I always believed he could come good. Great to see him finally getting there and if he continues to push on he can be a real fan favourite.

the fear
Who would believe that such a negative manager can make Agbonlahor look a world beater and get Ireland (who praises the manager) to rediscover his form from Man City, Shame that he is rubbish in sorting the defense out and adopts such negative tactics. But his man management is sort of there and there abouts, dressing room seems a lot happier.
Villa 4 Ever
It's good to see him finally performing like we knew he could. Hopefully he can steer clear of injuries and really move through the gears now. Three or four goals between now and the end of the season would be the icing on the cake.

The defence is poor. It always has been, under MON they just had to hoof it up to Carew, Gabby, Young and Co and let them counter ... when asked to play it from the back they have always struggled, I think most of our current defence will be gone in the summer and new guys brought in ... UTV

.............. as for Ireland ... class is permanent and he will only get better in a Villa shirt.

Try being Petrov, the man has been club captain for god knows how many years and I've not heard his name sung once at Villa Park. It is a disgrace. What must Stan think?
