Mystic Mug v Lawro Faceoff: Newcastle Away

Mystic Mug v Lawro Faceoff: Newcastle Away

Lawro on BBC Sport says Villa will lose 2-0 to Newcastle on Sunday.

He`s probably smarting because Mystic Mug is now ahead of him 8-7 in correct forecasts!!!!!!!!!!!

Lawro says

"I think there is a bigger story at Aston Villa than their results under their manager Alex McLeish. The only players they signed in January were Robbie Keane on loan and a young full-back called Enda Stevens. It appears it is all about profit and loss and the balance sheet at Villa Park, with chairman Randy Lerner saying 'we cannot spend more than we earn, end of'."

Oh and this hurts....

"Consequently, you look at Villa and you see a mid-table side. People say they are a big club, but they're not. They were a big club but they aren't anymore, just like you could say Liverpool are not as big as they were. Those are the facts."

And on Newcastle, he says despite not winning their win against Blackburn was very important.

"I thought Newcastle's form would drop off in the New Year but they have proved me wrong and done marvellously by winning four of their last six league games. I have to back them here."

Mystic Mug is in two minds, he says a loss is a pretty good option BUT he is going to sort of back the lads and stick his neck out for yet another draw. Yup, Mystic has become a fence sitter. 1-1

What say you folks?

Can't stand Lawro, but for once I agree with everything he's saying. Especially the bit about L'pool! We're still by far the biggest club in the midlands, but that's no longer really saying much.

I also think his assessment of us is correct. As much as it hurts to admit it,we're very much a mid table club at the moment. As for the game, after a couple of weeks where I predicted wins, I feel the barcodes will have too much for us :-(

It has been a while since we were a big team, we will not be again under Mr Learner. To the game, it will be very difficult especially as we will not keep a clean sheet. It is a pity that their African players are back, I would be more confident without them. We looked brilliant in the second half on Wednesday, if we play like that then we can get a draw, I see nothing better. COTVABU

Villa to come good at 3 - 1. Running into some sort of form at last as shown by the second half on Wednesday.

Be interesting to see how many points we'd have on the board based on lawro's predictions - probably only be about 10!! Anyone know?

Frankly, I think 'mid-table' flatters us.
