Bent Wants 100 At Villa...
Darren Bent has told AVFC.co.uk that he hopes his next 100 goals are at Villa.
Reading between the lines, he wants out doesn`t he?!?!?
Bent scored his 100th league goal last night against QPR and then said that it means the world to him.
"It was fantastic to score my 100th in a Villa jersey. That meant a lot to me. It meant the world to me actually. There was obviously speculation about me in the January transfer window. But I don't want to go anywhere. I am fully committed to this great club." (again with the hinting that he wants out.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
'For me to be able to share my joy with the claret and blue fans out there was fantastic. That meant everything to me.'
He added, 'If I could get another 100 in the claret and blue I'd be happy, delighted. It would really be fantastic. These supporters are tremendous. When they're behind us like they were in the second half against QPR, they're unbelievable. They lifted us."
Well done Bent, now get 20 for this season and become a Villa legend. Him and Gabby up front for years to come?!

Talking about Gabby, he is a doubt for the Newcastle game.
McLeish explained that he doesn`t think it is anything too serious, 'He has a back spasm and hamstring spasm. It's related. He's an athletic guy - a sprinter - and sometimes they can have that sort of problem with the exertions they have to put in with their running. It's something that can just give at any particular time."

Gabby and Bent together up front? Does it work? Did we play better last night without Gabby in the side? You know, I don't envy Big Eck one bit when it comes to picking our best team. I wouldn't think of leaving out either Bent or Gabby but it seems we play better when it's just one of them up front.

I hope your wrong Stephen Jay but tend to agree with you. Gabby and Bent could be our lampard and gerrard. Wicked players but when you play them in the same team it doesnt work ...

Gabi hasnt played up front all season.... As soon as Keane goes back to the MLS McLown will probably start playing us 4-5-1 again so we slip closer to relegation!

Course they can play together, remember the Norwich game? When keane leaves I'd like to see Ireland play that role just off bent with gabby and zog wide. I know gabby isn't a winger but if the front 4 are instructed to be fluid and interchange with each other it could be very hard for opposition defences to contain them. If those 4 click they can be real class. Great to see benty back on the goal trail!

Gabby played up front on his own at Chelsea. 3-1 win. Against Norwich and Wigan, both played but as far as I can remember Gabby was playing wide in those games, but it worked really well for those games, and Gabby set up Bent with a few goals. I'd like to see Gabby and Bent up front together with Gabby given the freedom to go wide, drop deep, drag defenders all over the place, and create the general havoc that frightens opposition defenders.

wonder if qpr would have scored twice with gabby playing he gets through a lot of work which goes unoticed as against arsenal when he started the move that bent scored from on the edge of our own penalty area. If gabby has a problem its his ideal position is where bent plays. Like to see a few games with 4 4 2 and gabby alongside bent.

Agree 100% with Lion Heart...At the moment Keane and Ireland are trying to 'drift' into the same space behind Bent..Ireland is having to play an unnatural position, but is looking more impressive each game...Bent on the shoulder of last defender... two of Gabby, Marc and Charles wide...with Ireland given the free role (once Keane has gone)... Gabby can be back up to Darren as well, and I believe Gary Gardner could also play the free role (natural goalscorer from deep) as well as either a holding player or a box to box..in fact he can play however you like!

Of coarse Gabby and Bent can play together, you just have to know how and its obvious ECK doesn't, Bent just needs to stay high up the field and gabby can drop deeper and run the channels ive seen Bent dropping far too deep far too often this season when he is honestly useless doing it, its not part of his game where as Gabby is very capable of it, I would play a diamond midfield and 2 up top in games we would expect to win, Clark as a holding mid playing just in front of the defence, Petrov and Ireland in the center with Ireland given more of a free role and petrov as a deep lying playmaker with N'zog playing just behind Gabby and Bent being able to drop onto the wings and having him and Gabby swapping wings at time, really think between Ireland N'Zg and Gabby whoever we play would find it hard to pick them up and then cope with Bent too and we should be fairly safe at the back with Clark and Petrov, if we get rid of most our defence of coarse...

Agreed it is porbably the system they play in that doesn't work rather than the fact they can't play together. The worrying thing is if us lot can see how they can operate together in a decent system why can't Eck???

Hate to say it but I honestly think eck is right not to play 442. Our defence are so poor they need extra cover and our midfield just isn't strong enough with only 2 in the centre, we always get over run. At least with this system we have petrov and clark protecting the back 4 with Ireland, zog and keane dropping back to help out. But for it to work, when we attack they have to get up and support DB9 as shown against qpr 2nd half.

Yes Lion Heart, but then again, Bent can't hold the ball up either so it comes straight back and invites teams onto us. With Gabby up there, at least he holds it up!!
