McLeish Has Plans For The Summer

Sadly it's not to go on holiday and resign by email, but he's talking about a strange thing - transfers!

I wonder if that will go the same way as 'Gabby isn't a winger?'

Speaking to the Official Site McLeish said that the club had carried out it's plans for this transfer window but targets were being tracked for the summer.

In fact he says he has 'definite plans' for the summer.

'We've never waivered from our intentions for this window. The chairman still wants to steer towards the financial stability and I think you can tell by the lack of business throughout that's the case at a lot of other clubs aswell. But we have definite targets and we have definite plans on what we can do.'

As is no longer a strange occurrence in a McLeish interview he curiosly adds.

'I know the fans get excited about new faces and I am fully aware of that. Building your own team sometimes isn't an overnighter - for Mark Hughes it might be but not for me.'

Now admittedly I'm not a QPR fan, so I'm happy for people to correct me, but unless I've missed something Hughes has added 3 players coming to a total of about £10m and then 3 loans.

Didn't Eck pay that money alone for N'Zogbia before adding Hutton, Jenas and let's not forget Given and Stevens into the mix?

So what's the message, Hughes is a better user of the funds available considering he spent less overall to achieve an addition of 3 players or that Eck isn't a good judge of the loan market?

Or have I just got out of bed on the wrong side again today?

McLeish has been here 8 months now. I just hope Hughes ‘overnight’ team does not show us up tonight.

Cannot see us spending more than 5 mill in the summer and thats to replace out of contract players Heskey Beye & Cuellar. What worries me is if he thinks Hutton was worth 4 mill what is he goiing to buy?.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Please god no don't give this fool a another year please please please I just don't think I could take it, this has been the most boring prem year ever for me and not because of lack of funds or new faces but just the football is total 5H1TE and every time the idiot speaks he *****es me off just all the stupid comments like he says a lot of other teams are trying to be financally stable, eh what other clubs STUPID??? Everton ya but thats notging new everybody else are still spending INCLUDING us like you said mike he talks about the mark hughes having more money than him that just proives he hasn't a clue what he's talking about, another year with this fool is another step closer to relagation, I have said before we won't get him out this season but every fan should do everything they possibly can to make sure we don't have to suffer this cruel and unusual punishment for another long LONG season....

Hopefully, I think that Hughes' new boys aren't all eligible tonight??? It's just another ******** excuse as to why we aren't winning and as rightly pointed out, an incorrect one as you can't just talk rubbish to the press and expect everyone to believe the hype when there is none. Think that I would rather listen to Phil Thomson talking about Liverpool for an hour than Eck for 5 mins about anything at the moment!!!!

As stupid as Lerner seems to be, if he gives Mcleish any money to spend, I won't be renewing my season tickets. Absolutely effing disgraceful tonight.

Alas I fear he is going no-where. We are stuck with the bloke, possibly until he gets us relegated. If he does get the chance to make more signings in the summer he will take us even further back. I'm just waiting now for the day he eventually goes, before I can get excited about our club again. I just hope he doesn't do too much damage in the meantime.

I'm no McLeish fan, far from it, i was involved in setting up the protest at the start of the season from a number of sites, But from watching last night and seeing Zoggy smash that goal in, i now hope he fully fulfills his price tag and more, at the second half of last season for Wigan he alone made them stay up and with Ireland showing masses of promise who again was valued at 20m once upon a time when he was player of the season at Man City along with Clark now having a much more involved role in the first team i can see masses of promise from the team. With Lichaj and Herd along with Baker having a more involved role next season we should see the likes of Gardner, Clark, Albrighton fully establish themselves as first team players. I'm unsure with Bannan at the moment but Ireland seems to be doing well in that attacking role and seems far happier linking to fellow Irish man Keane, He has been an instant spark and if some how we manage to make that deal happen replacing Heskey that would be massive for us and what better way to train yourself up for the Irish team than playing with fellow Given, Clark, Ireland and Dunne, as well as Enda Stevens soon to break the first team while Woeful Warnock carries on woefully. I can see massive potential and Aston Villa is screaming out bright future. Why would anyone of the youngsters want to leave when they have grown up from little boys into men winning trophies at under 18 and reserve level. They follow the longest serving player at the club in Agbonlahor and we can have a good side with youth players who are now turning into men and look quite ready to challange in the Premier League. We have something special and unique at how much potential we have with our young stars, it shouts golden era if handled correctly, and for me McLeish is handing these young lads vital experience. I really can see Given in goal with Lichaj Clark, Baker, Stevens at the back with Gardner and Herd in the centre with Albrighton and Zoggy on the wings and Ireland sitting behind Gabby upfront in a couple of years time. You can already see Lichaj at right back, and you can see Gardner and Herd or even Clark hitting it big time in the centre going up against anyone in the premiership. We could easily turn out a team that is pure Aston Villa, from the heart and from the roots. What more can you really ask for from players who have the gift, who have heart, passion and determination to succeed. The only question is the manager and as long as we are hitting the top 10ish along with our youngsters showing plenty of promise i'm a happy chappy. Look at Man Utd, Liverpool or even West Ham at a time, when the teams cropped a handful of youth players and played them together they became successful stories and not many other clubs have been that fortunate to reap so much from the youth academy, Villa are on them lines for the first team in along time. Management could be better but how we are right now saving money, bringing the youth through is a lot more rewarding than having a manager that is only content in bringing in his own team and selling all the youth, Look at Cahill and Gardner for example from MON, them two players would cerment their place in our first team any day, and it hasnt taken them long to make themselves massive hits away from Villa given the playing time. Gary is a better prospect than his brother and Clark is leaps and bounds better than Cahill at the same level. Baker is probably on level with Cahill at his age. The future is bright the future is Aston Villa !!
