Gardner Runs Through Walls

Alex McLeish has said that Gary Gardner would run through walls for Villa and it's that desire, as well as his talent, that means he will turn into a real gem for us.

Speaking to the Official Site McLeish lavished praise on the youngster following his starting debut for the club against Wolves and of course his effort in last night's NextGen disappointment.

'Gary has come up through the Villa system. We want to breed kids at this club with a real desire and fire to play and go through brick walls for Villa and I'm sure Gary is of that ilk. We know Gary has all the attributes to be an Aston Villa player.'

McLeish says there was only one thing about his Wolves performance that stopped it from being a dream start...the header he should've got on target.

'I wasn't worried about Gary making his first start. And, in fact, it could have been an unbelievable beginning for him. He had a header right at the start of the game and he should probably have hit the target at least. But for him to host in there and be so confident was great. I thought he handled it very well. I was very impressed with him.'

The big dilema for Eck now is does he start Gardner on sunday or rest him for the league now irelands fit? i would play him from the start and bring him off when he starts to tire personally, with Gardner and ireland in the centre Bent should benefit from this, play a 5 man midfield to congest the gooners midfield and hit them on the break with albrighton on the right, gabby on the left and petrov sitting?

ireland is not suitable in midfield. probably better behind bent, like keane. i wonder how it would look if we play 2 behind bent, lol. attacking frenzy
Gruck
He won't play Keane, Gardner and Ireland. Gardner just played 120 minutes so I reckon Ireland will be back with Gardner on the bench.

I think Keane and ireland are vying for the same position off Darren Bent. I would start with Keane, and have Marc and Gabby wide. Petrov and Clark to hold in midfield. Gardner played 120 minutes last night. Have him on the bench and start wiith him against QPR. Also then start with Ireland v QPR,,,a bit of rotation!

Isn't the squad options starting to look better now for midfield and up front? If only Eck would take his blinkers off and sort out the defense with our Spanish friend and Clarke....

Is the rumour true that Fergie wants him as long term replacement for Scholes???FEAR ????any answers,PS whats left on his contract? Is it gonna b another Cahill episode,no doubt as the owner only seems interested in cashing in.Heard from a reliable source thats all.

Gardner looks far from the finished article. He seeems incapable of hitting 60 yard speculative balls for people to chase. Until he can do this, he will not be able to hold down a regular place.
