Villa 1 Marseille 2 - NextGen Disappointment

Villa 1 Marseille 2 - NextGen Disappointment

Villa battled admirably against the 13 individuals seemingly representing Marseille tonight.

Unfortunately we paid the price for not converting our own chances during the game, but with a referee who gave Marseille every dive and doubt and the less said about the lineswoman and her offside decisions is probably for the best. The battle was more uphill than we could manage.

The lads should be very proud of themselves tonight. It's been years since I've seen such incompetent officiating, yet they still put in a grand performance, for large parts of the game ran Marseille ragged only failing in not scoring more and they battled for every ball and went until the final minute.

They should be proud.

Just as well Andy Gray wasn't commentating tonight. He would have lost another job.

Great performance lads. If only we'd taken all our chances. Marseille are a very tall side in comparison and this made the job very difficult. Also, the opposition were falling like nine pins in extra time, anything to disrupt play when Villa had got the ball. You were all a credit to our club.

We didn't play anywhere as near as well as the earlier rounds, but Marseille were a very big side and closed us down very well. In patches we still played some very good stuff but missed far too many gilt edged chances. I thought our players were definitely more skillful but the French were very well organised. A shame they let themselves down with the blatant cheating in extra time.

I have not seen as bad a performance by a team of match officials in a long time. It is many a year that I have been this annoyed by such incompetence. Well done lads you did us proud.

Disappointed but proud of the Young Lions. It's always difficult when there is only eleven of you against what was seemingly thirteen. Well done though lads. UTV.

We really should have put our chances away but great effort and a good turnout by the fans. Worst officials i have ever seen at any level of football including the under 11's i see every week.
