McLeish Calls On Villa To Push On

McLeish Calls On Villa To Push On

Following our somewhat dramatic victory over Wolves, Alex McLeish has called on the team to show some consistency and start climbing the table.

Speaking to the Official Site McLeish said he had challenged the players to get into the top half of the league as soon as is possible and he's focusing on our home form to get us there.

'The key to the win was getting in at half time and trying to regroup and stressing the need to show that character and spirit. The boys started well in the game and then we played on the back foot instead of the front font. It wasn't for the feint-hearted and we took a bit of a pummelling. We had to really rally ourselves and I said 'you are a Villa player and you have to show these fans how much it means to you' and we got that response.'

As the season moves on Alex says the challenge is to get into the top half as fast as we can and he knows our form at home has to improve considerably.

'I have set the guys a target of getting into the top 10 as quickly as possible. That's the aim for the second half of the season, the players have got to make that their goal. There are no guarantees, but if my defenders are in the form of the second half, we won't lose as many goals as we have. The home form has been frustrating, that's got to be the next target for us, to win as many home games as we can. We are aware of that.'

Everybody is aware of that Alex!

Let's not get carried away now Eck. You mean that you're really going to suggest to the lads that they can win more than once a month. We've beaten an off form Chelsea thanks to Ireland almost single handed, Norwich who are hit and miss. Then you have the bottom 4. Leave ASAP

Isn't the idea to win at home and try not to lose away from and/or snatch a draw ??? ...... thats how most clubs do it Eck ..... surely it hasn't taken 22 games to realise that ..
