Robbie Keane - The Get Out Of Jail Card?

Robbie Keane - The Get Out Of Jail Card?

Well, I think most will agree with me, Robbie Keane looked a bit rubbish yesterday?!?!?!?!

Ha...! Cut above pretty much anyone else on the pitch wasn`t he? Knows where to pass, creates space, makes the right moves and most importantly, he knows exactly where the goal is.

Shame we didn`t get him a decade ago. Oh, by the way, a myth buster. Doug Ellis didn`t stop the move over £500k. Every time John Gregory went to watch him at Wolves, he wasn`t impressing and as JG said later, he wasn`t the only PL manager to miss out on him as he obviously moved abroad.

Damn, could have been a legend!

I do so hate these loans though, he`ll break our hearts when he leaves I think. He was our best player by far in my ever so humble and then you sort of know, he`s off again. With that said, I think his goals might just have turned our season. If we`d lost, we would have gone to 15th and I`d have put money on us being in a rest of season long relegation battle. What would worry me is the teams around and abouts the bottom 6 are used to battling down there, our lot aren`t.

Two outstanding goals by Keane. If only we could keep him!

Talking about that, Alex McLeish would also like that! He told http://www.sundaymercury.net/

He would love the 31-year-old to stay.

"It is up to Robbie. If he feels he wants to come back, I`m sure there would be some welcoming arms. I would like to think we`d be interested."

However Robbie did say last week that he likes the lifestyle in the USA and he isn`t looking to move back to the PL permanently.

Still think, Premiership wide, that the loan system is just wrong and the rules should not have been changed, however this one loan has - it seems - got us out of jail and hey, we`ve actually seen a true quality player on the pitch, first time in a long time we`ve had a player who you feel can score from anywhere isn`t it?! Just shows the other strikers (hopefully) if you shoot, you might just score!

Going by his display at Wolves, and though I had doubts about him before, it seems only sensible to me that every attempt should be made to keep Robbie for a couple of years. It will no doubt cost Villa's owner a packet, but if the return is a collection of match-winning goals, then it will have been money well spent during this period of transition and re-grouping that has been thrust on Villa's faithful. Keane certainly seems to still have skills to offer the Premier League and it will only raise the morale of the club's supporters with, presumably, a restoration of the attendance figures. The argument seems to be augmented by the rumour that Heskey is to leave in the summer. Though Heskey has been disappointing, scoring-wise at least, his experience will be a loss and needs to be replaced by someone who is preferably better. Is Keane that man? There is, of course, a further corollary to this argument. Hitherto we have been seeing Bent as virtually out on his own up-front. With Keane's additional presence it would mean that opposing defences will have double-trouble to worry about. And Keane (I hear) is not slow on telling his midfielders how he wants the ball. Perhaps he will wake up our midfield a bit. I kinda look forward to Ireland, Keane and Bent playing together.

Was delighted when we signed him even if it is only for 6 weeks as our young players can learn so much about movement off the ball from a class act like Keane! Would love to think we could keep hold of him but would you swap life in Birmingham for LA???

He is one of the few players we have that actually "suits" villa. He is the type of player we want to see out there and just looks fits the club really well. I am hoping that he decides to swap l.a for the midlands full time.

LA isn't as brilliant as you might think, a vast spralling city that never ends, and largely a dump in places.

Stig, do think the dump bits are where Keane lives? I agree with you but I guess he lives a bit closer to Rodeo Drive than the dumpy bits. I suspect the most we can hope for from him is 8 or 10 points to lift the season.

Stig, I've lived in and around LA. Birmingham doesn't come close. Not only that, as a designated player, he's not going to be struggling financially over there.

I think the lure of a successfull loan spelland his passion for football may just work in our favour, don't write off him joining permanently in the summer? And lets give Mcleish a pat on the back, cos there is no way we could spend 500k / £1million (i think this loan has costed us approx) on any player that would have scored those goals yesterday and won us 3 points!

fear - I know they're all a bit weird in coventry but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's abroad.......JG was too influenced by the comments of a certain Man Ure manager and Ellis was too tight. We had made a £6M bid at the time, hardly the action you take if the player had never impressed you. Anyway water under the bridge, can only wonder what might have been if we'd got him all those years ago.
