McLeish Keane On 'Sublime Strikes'

Alex McLeish was delighted to see Robbie Keane get on the scoresheet, and praised the player in his after match verdict.

Speaking to the Official Site after the game, the manager said.

'They were two great strikes. Robbie has done that throughout his career. It was no surprise to see him get on the scoresheet. The winner was spectacular. He nearly had a hattrick, I'm pleased for him.'

In other after match news, Eck revealed that Gabby's substitution was for health and safety reasons. The striker has been suffering with a bug for the last few days so Eck didn't want him to overdo it.

'I think to take someone like Gabby off when in brilliant form would be sheer folly. Unfortunately Gabby was ill, he caught a bug from his kid, his baby is okay now thankfully, but Gabby was sick this morning.'

Eck adds that the doctor gave him some pills and he felt fine for the game, but was knackered at half time and obviously, he wants him to recover for our next match.

In other injury news, Stephen Ireland has picked up a hamstring strain so was left out to rest, and N'Zogbia has a heel problem.

Looking on the bright side, Eck says that made the team far easier to pick.

To be fair i have been proved wrong as man have on the keane signing, can't wait to see his goals on MOTD, we just need to sort our home form out and we will be top 7, but im still worried about our defence set pieces are our achillies heel at the moment.

Glad to say I and others who wanted him have been proved right... So far in any case on Robbie Keane. Shame its not a perm deal and shame it wasn't 12 years ago mind!

He is only here for a few games, without him today that was another loss, it's frightening

Good point andy. We've still only beaten crap teams, and one 'good' team going through a crisis. Loads wrong in B6. Fair play to Warnock today - I've been really critical of him and Hutton this season, but sounds like he made a real difference.

Let's just see how we go against Arsenal and then our next home game. Wolves are pretty rubbish and even more so with ten men but a good result all the same. That said McLeish still IS NOT the man for me!!

Lets be fair to Warnock - when he came on the first thing he did was go in with a determined tackle....followed by a couple more.... He played well....one cannot argue. I will however choose Carlos at right-back over anyone else....

I just hope that Lerner realisees that we need a proper goalscorer (outside the box) yesterday showed how much we miss that kind of player, can u imagine, Milner, Barry, Ash, Downing, across the middle and Bent and Keane upfront, Given in goal, now thats top 4, can you see that Randy.

totally love it - put RK in my Fantasy team and he got me 10 pts - yipee now i am not dead last. LOL. absolutely stunning goals especially the second one. now if i can get my secnd wish and that is for MAc to hit the track out of villa park

If they are so sublime AMC, then why take off a striker and replace with a defender when we're a goal down???? Without those 2 brilliant strikes from Keane, we'd have lost that! He made up for our managers ineptitude.
