Makoun's Future To Be Decided In The Summer

Alex McLeish has said he hasn't made his mind up about Jean Makoun yet, but confirmed from day 1 he was looking at the midfield without an experience Champions League player being in it.

Sometimes it just writes itself when it comes to Eck.

So now we have McLeish saying he wanted to evaluate all his players, including those everybody and their dog knew should've been shipped out yet remain undroppable from the first team, but then he admits he wasn't going to give Makoun a chance because he wanted something different?

Roight Alex, well done on that score then, what is your first choice central midfield then, fancy giving Guzan a go next?

Anyway, speaking to the Birmingham Mail he said (I presume without smiling).

'He's still in Greece, he is there for the season, in the same way we had Jermaine Jenas.'

Which isn't quite right because when Makoun was injured, he stayed in Greece, now Jenas is injured, we're paying his wages even though he's gone back to Spurs.

'Has he got a future with us? It depends. The reason for letting Jean out was I was looking for a different type of midfielder. I'm not saying he's not got a future, it would be stupid to say that, but certainly I was looking at our midfield without Jean.'

McLeish adds Makoun knew from the start of the season what Alex's thoughts were, but he says he will sit down with the 28 year old in the summer and discuss his future.

For his next masterstroke then should we expect the unveiling of Lee Bowyer?

"I'm not saying he's not got a future, it would be stupid to say that". Never normally stops you Eck...... Not an Eck player as he's the opposite type of manager that brought him in. Well done in the consistency Randy and in your choice of tw@s

I understand where Eck is coming from. Makoun played a lot of slick one touch football and couldn't get to grips with passing sideways and backwards. mmmmmmmmmmmmm. I think Makoun and Ireland would link up very well together.

He obviously hasn't got a future because you didn't even give the bloke a chance. Maybe he objected to playing hoof ball instead of the beautiful game as it should be?

To be fair, he has only played 12 games for Olympiacos. Compare that to Mellberg who has played 25 this season.

Why would he play him ? after all he can play football to a very high standard and towards the oppositions goalmouth ..... we wouldn't want that now would we Alex ......

LOL champions league midfielder - he was ****e. slick one touch football?? you mean one touch was all he got because it was so bad he gave the ball away I presume. I can't stand Mcleish and his handling of just about everything since he arrived at the club is an embarrassment but come on Makoun was crap.

AV ... he played a handful of games and needed time to settle into Prem pace ...... but he is definitely not crap, he has a lot of quality.

same happened to NRC if you want my 2 cents... and even if he doesn't shine at Bolton, we lack his bite SO much in midfield...

Shocking we let him go. Great vision and a fairly good passer. A big FAIL that we brought in Jenas for Makoun. Never had a fair chance at Villa.

Hopefully, McLeish won’t be the one making that decision in the summer. He came to this country in January and we saw enough to know he had quality, and he would have been better this season. And yes he is a regular in the Olympiakos side, and has gone straight back into theie centre midfield as soon as he returned to Greece from his injury. They beat Marseille, Dortmund and Arsenal in this seasons Champions League and would wipe the floor with us. Absolute madness to let him go.

Looking at it from Makouns' point of view. I'd rather find a club where I'm appreciated and where they play football - not this ANTI FOOTBALL idiot has us performing each week.

Is Eck for real? A couple of days of watching Makoun and he immediately shipped him out. Well done. What a nob. Get lost Eck I'm tired of you now.

Mcleish hasnt got a clue should get on well with Makoun from what I saw of him he hasnt either. Never seen a Villa player give the ball away so often couldnt tackle couldnt pass should slot straight into Mcleishes first team .

I have been thinking about this. I think the only reason he was out the door so quickly was due to money in the short-term, but the club (not Eck) seeing him as a useful play in the future. Look they were looking to get people off the wage bill and Eck wanted his own type of player so he would have sold Makoun to fund a full transfer for Jenas but either we could not find a buyer OR Randy was looking to see who else we could get rid off first. It makes sense to me appointing Eck just to try and keep us up and clear the wage bill a bit. As we all see it makes no sense trying to become a good passing side one year then the most negative team in football the next. I can see Eck not being in charge at the start of next season and us trying to play better football, the kind that a player like Makoun was brought in to play. So I think Makoun will be back in the team next year. But of course my whole theory is dependent on Randy and Co.'s thought process making sense which is doubtful. UTV!!

Ment to include how by putting him out on loan we could at least reduce the amount of his wage we pay and so save some money this season.
