Mat Kendrick of www.birminghammail.net has picked up on the Supporters Consultation Meeting held on Saturday before the Everton match.

At it, CEO Paul Faulkner asked those who attended, if they would like Villa to explore more fully the return of standing sections at Villa Park.

Lee Lindsay represented Vital Villa on Saturday. He explained:

First of all Faulkner asked us one. He wanted to know what we felt about a standing area. It appears Villa are keen to approach this but with caution. A section of 500 or so seats will be changed to the drop down/bench format potentially so still compliant for UEFA games (not like we will be seeing any in the near future!).... this is early stages but likely to go ahead.

It appears they have decided to try to get the corner of the Holte End and Trinity Road stand as the area to start with:

Paul has had preliminary talks with the Premier League and also the Supporters Federation (who have long since campaigned for a return to standing areas)

As Mat says in the Mail For Villa`s standing scheme to go ahead, it would require a change to the existing law, which was introduced in the early 1990s following Lord Justice Taylor`s report into the Hillsborough disaster. Adding that the SPL last month agreed to a return to safe standing areas in their stadiums.

Forget gimmicks like this to make the atmosphere at VP better. One simple solution. Change managers !!!

It would certainly help towards making a better atmosphere also it should be cheaper to watch the match standing, i missed out on the experiance of standing at matches in the older days, maybe a change of manager and some cash to replace collins dunne and warnock and heskey would also contribute some way to getting the buzz back at VP!

we can talk about safe standing without this manager. He'll go one day, this is a different issue. Cheers.

Ha ha nice one Paul. How is making one section standing going to improve the atmosphere anyways?? most of our songs start from the Holte Upper. Is the thinking behind this that standing section will also start signing and the rest of the ground follow? if it is for only 500 how much difference will it make ??

500 vocal fans freed to stand and party like the old days would make a huge difference to the atmosphere.

Here's hoping. It might make the atmosphere less vocal though in the areas where the fans previosuly watched the matches. Unless of course they are fans that would not normally have attended and those in the witton lane upper. They can't be less vocal if they tried ...

it would also be a great place then to orchestrate the songs and that would get the rest of the Holte going (which could then catch on around the ground) ((and yes, I know, not under this current manager etc etc!)
