'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Given Loves Ireland

Shay Given has said that Villa are now starting to see the best of Stephen Ireland on the pitch.

Speaking to the Herald the goalkeeper said.

'Stephen has had a frustrating time but during the last few weeks you have seen the real Ireland. During the win at Chelsea, in glimpses at Villa Park and again against Everton, he has shown that if we can get him the ball he is very comfortable. His confidence has taken a lift, he wants to be on the ball more and is more bubbly around the place. That can only be good for the club.'

Ireland has certainly woken up this season, but his form really has been little different to the glimpses shown under Houllier - the difference is he hasn't been scapegoated this year.

A few MOM performances and a consistent run of form topped with a few goals and i will be convinced, otherwise he will just be another player like collywobbles who wasted what they had!

We have Clark, Given, Ireland, Dunne, Enda along with Keane at the moment, We have a nice solid Irish hold at the moment in the premiership, with one or two more investments for the future we could see a good Irish fan base. There are a few under 21's like Robbie Brady from Man Utd, currently 19 and has scored 4 goals for the under 21's in 7 games, currently on loan from Hull and he isn't even a striker. You have Greg Cunningham from Man City who is a left back/left winger currently on loan to Nottingham Forest, then you have Conner Clifford from Chelsea who plays in Midfield, The Irish team is getting quite old asnd these are the players that will be stepping up to the first team. Got to be worth a gamble and most of them will be low risk.
Villa 4 Ever
Gavin McCann produced better stuff than this gimp. The whole squad and managment staff disgust me. Championship standard self centered gimps the lot of them.

Villa 4 Ever. I am an Irish Villa fan and you would be shocked at how strong the fan base here is. Of course you would think the Villa are unknown with the number of pool, man u and celtic shirts you see (mostly on people who watch more GAA than football anyway) but a walk down O'Connell on a match day and you would see a very loyal, large group of fans. Also spend sometime around the colleges and astro pitches of Ireland, the number of Villa kits is huge.

A bit harsh lerneravfc. I think that he has to prove himself over a longer period of time before the words hero are bandied round, but let's give the guy a chance to shine while he's on the up rather than shoot him back down. He clearly is a confidence player and seemed to be lapping up the chants on saturday. I say keep it going.
