'If It's Football, It's Vital'

McLeish Wants Positive Mental Attitude For Arsenal

Alex McLeish has said he believes that we can win at Arsenal and he hopes the 11 players he selects do as well.

Should he be selecting players who he doesn't think believe we are able to win any game?

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail Alex continued with the nonsensical interview material as he said.

'The great thing about cup football at any level is you've got to believe you can win.'

Sorry, does that really only apply to cup football? Has that been why we've been so piss poor in the league? We've been forgetting to go into games thinking we can win...really?

'I believed we could win at Chelsea and we did and I believe we can win at Arsenal. I hope there's 11 guys who take to the pitch that day who are like minded.'

And then the best bit.

'On paper we shouldn't win, the bookies won't be expecting us to win, but if you've got aspirations to win a cup then these are games you have to win.'

Neither should Swansea and they've beaten both teams, but I don't see them hanging out the white flag ahead of games.

eeerrr. Whatever happened to 'one game at the time'? Why are we discussing Arsenal on the 28th when we are playing Wolves on 21st. Please somebody get rid of this muppet from Villa Park. Not soon. Not after a couple of more defeats. But now. Immediately. If not sooner.

"On paper we shouldn't win, the bookies won't be expecting us to win, but if you've got aspirations to win a cup then these are games you have to win." On paper we are as good as Arsenal. Apart from RVP they are a bunch of overrated nobodies. I don't like our manager saying this and if this is his attitude then there is absolutely no wonder we are languishing where we are. It's all about expectations and the manager should set the bar. Our keep is better tha theirs. Our defence is as dodgy as theirs. In midfield we have just as much guile as them - in fact, in Ireland I would argue we have the best player. Up front we have players who can destroy them...in fact Bent did last season. Aston Villa should always be capable of giving Arsenal a good thrashing and nothing changes that now. Man for man we are more than a match for them. Eck, you are not managing Blose now. I couldn't give a monkeys what cockney media pundits and bookies think. Villa should never be thinking of anything other than victory against clubs like Arsenal. Lose the small-time, low expectations attitude. A win is expected.

What a tool, these comments just prove what I believed all along and thats that we go into league games NOT believing we can win, what a great manager we have probably the only manager in the prem who makes his players believe they CAN'T win!!!

Complete packet of *********.

A managers number one job is to motivate and install belief into everyone on and off the pitch, right from board level through to the fans. It's a confidence game, look at MON, not the greatest tactical manager but he has the players feeling ten feet tall and makes everyone believe they can beat anyone. We are in the dull drums, the fans and players heads are well and truly down, we have no confidence at all and won't ever under this muppet. He can't even say the right thing and how hard is it??!! It's up to us to step it up and get him put boys, we have to make Randy see because he certainly doesn't feel it like we do. I've felt physically sick from the moment Eck was appointed and it's only getting worse

I think what McIdiot is saying is that with him in charge then, on paper we can't beat them, and the bookies don't expect us to.

I agree it is not the players it is the way they are played.
Just shot his own ******** foot off in my opinion.

If this is how he talks to the players in the dressing room no wonder we play like we do. #utv

"I hope there's 11 guys who take to the pitch that day who are like minded" - He is clearly going to play a "lesser" team probably full of the reserve players and throw it away. Ar se ho le

If we lose at Wolves, we are in relegation danger and in my eyes the campaign to remove this clown needs to be ramped up. As has been said, why is he spouting off about Arsenal when we have a far more important match this weekend? I dont care what he thinks we should be doing in the FA Cup. I want to know what he IS going to do to improve performances, and how we're going to win more points in the 2nd half of the season. Eighteen days into the transfer window and all we have is Robbie Keane for 6 weeks - is that the extent of our ambitions for the 2nd half of the season? Surely when the first half has gone so badly, January is the time to make improvements to the squad to ensure improvement on the pitch? If Lerner doesn't trust him to spend cash, he shouldn't be in the hot seat. And if Lerner doesn't have any cash, then why spend £500,000 on giving Robbie Keane some work???? Rant over.

Why doesn't the idiot visit a speciallist then?
