McLeish Deflects Blame To Albrighton This Time

GREAT man management by Alex McLeish on BBC Sport

Never ONCE heard him take any blame for the dross of this season. Four losses, 1 draw in the last 5 home games. His latest excuse?

'I'm disappointed we didn't hold on. I had a good feeling we would. It's such a shame that Albrighton tracked Anichebe back but just didn't do the final thing to stop him. We are gutted by that. It's a good learning experience for him. It hurt us a wee bit by not getting three points."

looking down

That will really help a player whose confidence has been on the low side this season.

Well done Eck.

Also does his comment not say it all for the season? 'I`m disappointed we didn`t hold on.

A myth that you are defensive Alex? REALLY? Open Letter From Alex McLeish To ST Holders

I`m gutted at the way this season has gone, especially being one of the mugs who turns up whoever is in charge and whatever the circumstances AND the fact I was one of those ONCE APPOINTED (I was very unsupportive before) who was determined to give him a chance as I think fans should any new manager.

It all depends how Albrighton reacts, If he reacts in a positive way then we should see a more determined winger that helps Hutton out more and might even stop some of the leaky goals we let in, Albrighton is a fantastic work horse, reminds me a bit like Milner who used to never stop with that in mind he could be like our Bale who loves to get stuck in, let's be honest this season Hutton needs help, abit like Downing and Walker situation. On the other hand it might just be the excuse for dropping albrighton for Zoggy.

Saw the interview and thought exactly as you say Fear. He may be right but you don't rip him to shreds in the dressing room in front of the lads let alone on national TV FFS. As much as I didn't want Keane here, he was quality when he came on but what's the point for 10 mins?? We always seem to try to sneak a win or a point or hang on!!!! Why don't we go out and demolish other teams?? Answer is Eck's defeatist attitude. The players think that they're going out with a 3 goal defecit before they've even started and they're so scared to concede a goal that they've forgotten how to score more than 1 and hold on for dear life.

I do think you are right, but you never know he might react positively, Some of the players haven't been accounted for this season but one of the last players who should be put down is Albrighton, but Ireland reacted in a positive way when he was slammed in the press. All in all we would be in a far better place right now if we had someone like Martinz at the helm, playing Zoggy how he needs to be played and Albrighton on the other side, with two fearsome strikers upfront and when playing away from home we could easily have a 4,5,1 with Ireland playing behind the strikers two wingers and then two holding midfielders letting Ireland roam. The one man striker gives it his all for 45-60minutes until burnt out then replace with the other. We all love pretending to be the manager and thinking we know how to fix the problems but one thing is clear is McLeish isn't the manager to push Villa forward.

The annoying part of the goal for me was Warnock. He was the one who failed to push up with the rest and played him on. Maybe I just cut Marc to much slack as I can see his workrate and the fact that on the attack he is one of our best players and look to blame Warnock for everything as, well, he is useless.

If Eck whats to continue to alienate himself with the fans then comments like this are definately going to make it worse...take some responsibility man, the 1st half showing & majority of the 2nd was utter dross, woeful...Having made the run to track him he should of stayed with him, however Eck what about all the other didasters we've had and constant poor decision making from those with huge experience transfer fees and wages that have occured all to often this season...Mark albrighton is the one shining light for us fans at times and certainly does not need singling out, especially when he as other lads that are fans like us are giving their all for the club fans and most likely you....!

BAD MANAGER......FULL STOP!!!! Every week he blames this player or that. He picks the team. He trains the team. He dictates the tactics (or lack of them). IT'S HIS FAULT!!!!!!!!! Never in nearly 50 years of going to Villa matches have I seen the team play so consistantly badly. Not even under Dr. Jo! We must have the worst pair of full backs in the league, how they get any votes in the MotM poll is baffling!

It was Albrighton's fault to be honest. I can't see any reason why Albrighton should start, he shows a lot of passion and commitment on the field, he works very hard but it just seems cross after cross after cross with him, and everyone is awful...He has a lot to learn.

Some mistakes are punished, most are not. So to focus onthe one mistake that was punished, as against numerous defensive errors in the first half that went unpunishd entirely misses the point. The first responsibility for a good defensive performance starts out with having a good defence. That is where the blame starts for many recent Villa performances, including the lack of decent football going forward starting from the back. Cuellar, Clark, Herd should be in back four, with place then for NZogbia or Bannan in the middle. Gardner deserves chance too.

How about petrov not getting close enough on Baines and fouling him on their break for the goal?!?!? Petrov cannot finish 90 minutes, not his fault, but maybe Mcleish should use Gardner or DelPh when Petrovs legs go after an hour or so. Mcleish is a total idiot, and totally clueless - that's why. As for Lerner, he is equally as stupid in my eyes for appointing him in the first place, and the sooner they are both out of this club the better.

If we had sensible centre halves who would work to get back in position after a corner (instead of walking back like they always do) neither Warnock nor Albie would've needed to attempt to do their job.

You keep it in house and the main point of the article is that there's ALWAYS a ******** eckscuse!!! Why didn't Eck set us up to score 5 goals?? It wouldn't matter if 1 player made a mistake then!!! And "Everton are a decent side" come off it man. Not even going to bother explaining it to you if you don't know. Ask any Toffee fan.

As a manager you don't finger point like that p.avfc, where were our defenders? AGAIN.? For the manager to point to one player for blame was pathetic and cowardly. McLeish is simply, sadly, out of his depth. He emails us all to tell us he isn't defensive, then says yesterday he was hoping to 'hold on' no thoughts at all of going for another? No, just hold on.

I no fear, im not saying it was right for Mcleish to pin the blame on Albrighton but even he himself said it was his fault because it was...Im also saying that Albrighton has been poor, his crossing is abysmal, how many times do we see him cross the ball, only to go out for a throw to the other team, i no he had a few decent games a while ago but he is looking like nothing more than average.

The only thing I would say Jon is that its about time these players started earning their bloody money. We had all this crap last season under GH with him getting all the stick with the players getting off scott free. I agee buck stops with the gaffer but players have to step upto the plate and some are just not doing it at all. There was one occasion 1 minute into the 2nd half that the ball came to MA with nobody round him and his 1st touch took it 10 yards away from him and we lost posession, just not good enough. His crossing was awaful yesterday and e took 2 woeful free kicks/corners that went straight to the keeper. I agree maybe not bringing him up in public but these players have been wrapped in cotton wool for far too long now and need to pull there fingers out. I dont believe that AMc is telling the likes of Gabby and Bent not to find space when our midfield or defenders have the ball, thats down to the individual to make the effort and work themselves into positions to show for the ball. If there good players it should matter little what the matter says, they play a natural game and at this level, moving off the ball should be a bare minimum whatever the managers instructions are. The fact is, the players are not performing, whether thats down to the manager and the fact they dont want to play for him i dont know but I am getting fed up with these players being protected when they are not turning up.

Every time the man speaks I cringe, he talks in riddles and every time he opens his mouth he shows how much he isn't and shouldn't be a manager. His post match interview after the Everton game was a complete joke... We played very well..... At least we didn't lose???!!! The managers number one job is to motivate players and fans alike. I used to believe in Randy too but I bet he doesn't even know where we are on the ladder. I'm texted daily by my mates teasing Villa and the joke we are at the minute, thanks Eck and Randy!!

He talks about his record with Aberdeen as a player and then his record as a manager with Rangers and Scotland but then fails to talk about his record at Small Heath. He says he is not a defensive minded manager, but some people do not want facts to get in the way of a good story!!! Is this pratt for real?? Let me tell you some facts Mr Mcleish. You took somebody elses Rangers team to success in Scotlands annual two horse race. After four years of building your own team you managed to take Rangers to third place in the annual two horse race. THIRD FFS!!! And the Rangers fans chased you out of town. You took over as Sotland boss and actually did OK results wise, most memorably when you beat France 1 - 0) when you defended for 90 minutes and scored with your only effort on goal (the fact this was a speculative 30 yard shot following a big hoof from the keeper tells the true story). Then to Small Heath. A relegation, promotion, relegation along with a flukey League Cup win is the sum total of your managerial career. You say you want dynamic football, but it can't be every other teams fault that our games are the most boring in the League. Stoke, Manure, Bolton in the cup, Swansea, Wolves, WBA, Spuds, Abudabi Citeh, Redscouse, Bluescouse yesterday, Newcastle, QPR (their fans were singing boring boring Villa) are all mind numbingly rubbish performances that we have endured. You are not the man. You never have been and never will be. You are not wanted. Will never be accepted and look likely to be the only manager in Brum history to relegate both clubs in consecutive seasons. Please do the honorable thing, tear up your contract and walk away. You are going to feel very uncomfortable as the protests start at the next home game and they will only get worse.

agree WH... GH would have got shot of some of the bad apples last summer, shame that didn't happen anyway. But a manager is meant to manage, he's not dropping players at that back who should be dropped when there are the likes of Cuellar and Clarke to fill the gaps. But 100% agree WH and have said it myself this and last season, the players seem to be getting off scott free from criticism.

It's so depressingly boring being a villan right now... i was watching Swansea at home to Arsenal yesterday. I was impressed with how they attacked in numbers - took the game to Arsenal and won through. Their entire team showed both togetherness and flair, and it was entertaining viewing - proper football, rather than dull, negative, boring, defensive hoofball from our 'attack minded' manager. We badly need to sack mclueless and bring in someone like Brendan Rogers - someone who doesn't send his team out to lose before the ball has even been kicked. I can imagine the teamtalks before the Arsenal game of both Rogers and Mcleish - Rogers would be "we don't fear anyone at our own ground - get at them, attack and we can win it" Whereas Mcleish - "we're not going to beat Arsenal, so the best we can hope for is a draw. Make sure you track back and expect them to attack in waves" Mcleish out NOW

Oh, and very well spotted Fear - the quote above just shows McLoser's whole negative attitute towards games - 'ooooh, we've scored a goal... just HOLLLDDDD ONNNN lads' - not go for another goal at all. Watching swansea yesterday - when Arsenal equalised, did they retract into their shells, hoping to hang on for a point like McNegative? Nope - straight up the other end and hey presto....

the fact that he chose to focus on Albrighton's tracking back rather than why we gifted them the ball in the first place shows he has no football intelligence. The fact that he publicly criticised one of the hardest working and youngest players on the pitch just shows he has no idea how to manage. Clueless and talentless.

WTF?? “We had two players – the two Stephens – earning big money and doing nothing so it was my job to get the very best out of these guys on behalf of this club. So they're on big money and Randy has told Eck to get his money's worth????? Same apply to Heskey?? Do they understand football atalll?? Is Eck really just a clueless puppet?? juddy- it has already started. Thousands are voting with their feet and will not be back at VP whilst McLeish is still here. Those still attending are voting in their lack of vocal support. The next stage is the banners and the protest marches. Make your own anti McLeish banners and flags, bring them to the next game. I am not a fan of showing them before a game because that creates a terrible atmosphere before the players have had a chance to get a result. But if we are losing against QPR I think we should have as many anti McLeish banners/flags/posters on display as possible. Every fan should take personal responsibility to do their bit in getting rid of this muppet from Villa Park. I am still on Randys side, but he needs to step up to the plate and install a young, dynamic manager who can work within the budgets that are necessary at the moment. Pardew has sold his stars at Newcastle, but is doing well. Rogers has spent diddly squat at Swansea but is playing great football. Lambert has turned a team of championship players into a team or Premier League footballers. It isn't all about the money. It is about giving players confidence and a distinct style of play. McLeish does neither.
