Delfouneso Has To Grow Up?

With the arrival of Robbie Keane, Nathan Delfouneso has been told to find himself a club for a loan spell and come back a man.

Speaking to Setanta McLeish said he would now listen to offers for Delboy so he could get some proper pitch time under his belt.

'A loan for Nathan is something we'll think about. It would be great if Nathan got regular football and came back from being a boy into a man.'

So that's nice, he's not been man enough to call on for the first team but Heskey is? Rightio.

He won't however let Delboy and Weeman out at the same time he adds.

There is also a little speculation that Leeds fancy taking Fabian Delph back on a loan deal, but McLeish says of that.

'I would need to think about that one very carefully.'

He knows Delph is down the pecking order at the minute but he's apparently been very sharp in training lately and McLeish is obviously thinking of the numbers for midfield. That said he needs a loan so he can recover fully from his injury.

He needs that pitch time back and the confidence. Even only a month deal would do him the world of good.

Delph isn't a Premier League player, passing is poor, tackles are mis-timed and he gets out of position every time he moves, he's not really a kid anymore either so yeah move him on, but permanent. As for Defouneso, I agree Gabby grew up quick on the Prem stage filled out and learn't well, but Delfouneso still looks 17 and lightweight.

tackles are mis-timed? Scares the life out of me to watch him tackle. leaves himself so open. Did the loan at Burnley lead to the Fonz being a man? Fans there said he looked as though he thought he was better than he is. Reckon he still has the same problem. Great shame as the talent seems to be there.

I had great hopes for Delph but recently he just hasn't looked good enough. Disappointing especially considering what we paid (wasn't it around about £6-7M?). :(

astonmilan, Eck isn't a Prem manager but he's had 2 clubs in the division?!?!? Delph has the ability but his guidance has been shocking. If he never got that injury he would've probably been pinched by Manure by now. He looked good under GH.

Why would Man U sign him, is the boot boy on the sick?

Delph is a footballer, thats a problem when you play for ECK he's not a defensive midfielder but with the way ECK plays every midfielder is, and ECK tells them be aggressive when Delph has always had that aggressive streak in him, all in all bad management of a player and Delph is losing out because of it. As for delfouneso I always thought he looked good but just haven't seen enough of him and no manager really seemed to have faith in him so its hard to tell.

Delfouneso should be sold, not loaned. Not good enough.
deanovilla
Has Delfouneso really ever had a chance to shine at Villa? I mean he has never really had a run of games has he?

Delph is a good player, and has a lot of quality. He just isn't being played in the right way or being given the chance to show us what he's got with the way Mcleish is playing him. Have you seen some of the goals he used to score for Leeds? Everybody's always going on about how we need a goalscoring midfielder that isn't afraid to shoot from outside the box - if you need reminding of those goals http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyFfb9JhWHM

I was thinking about Fonz yesterday. He's old enough now to he producing. Many other players have been younger than him and have been cutting it in the top flight. McLeish is right. Man up or ship out.

You can't blame McLeish for players giving the ball away and for me Delph gave the ball away too often when he was playing earlier in the season. I've not given up hope on him though and maybe a loan deal would be good for him.
Adam Deuce
A loan back to Leeds might be good for Delph. He's got the talent but might need to drop back down a level to get a bit of confidence back.
Rawlie
WTF ? .......... do you actually watch the games ? Delph is played in centre midfield, that's what he is, a CENTRE MIDFIELDER !! What other position is he supposed to play ??? He is poor, he can't tackle, he can't pass, when he shoots it six yards off target his positional sense is non existent. That is down to the player not the manager. Delfouneso is poor too, Weiman is much much better hense not being told to go out on loan.
astonmilan
Delph was poor under Houllier and he knew how to play football, another wasted £7m from MON on average *****e. Get the 'Anti McLeish because he was Blues Boss' glasses off and look at the facts, two thirds of our squad is very average ....... McLeish inherited it, he didn't build it.
astonmilan
Astonmilan, you're in the minority with your affectionate feelings for Eck. He's ******** useless regardless of managing the blooded which he did in a sort of secret agent stylee by getting them relegated twice. Delph was quality under GH. He played left back and was much much better than Warnock. He may be playing CM now but there's a big difference between his role under Eck and his preferred more advanced role. The jury has to be out on him. The jury has voted unanimously in favour of Eck being guilty of lying, talking too much , playing, boring, unwatchable anti football. Take off your ginger Eck tinted glasses and take off that kilt and stop eating the haggis aswell. Eck didn't waste any money on Hutton, Jenas and Keane ( 3 spurs rejects) did he??

Delfoneso is not good enough, end of, neither is Delph, both should go
