Loans Are A Joke! Robbie Keane Signs

Aston Villa have confirmed the loan signing of Robbie Keane

Video interview: www.avfc.co.uk

31-year-old Keane says on www.avfc.co.uk:

'I'm delighted to be back in the Premier League. This is only short-term, of course, but there has been a lot of speculation over the years linking my name to Villa and, finally, I'm here. I'm excited about it and I know I'll really enjoy my time here. It's only for two months but I will do my absolute best in these two months. "

Adding, "Villa is a great club, a club with a massive tradition and standing in the game and Villa Park is one of the finest stadiums I've ever played in. If selected to play on Saturday, I will genuinely be looking forward to it and I'll be excited to be involved again in Premier League action. I've been training with the players here for the past few days and it's been great but I'm not naive enough to think I'll just walk straight into the team."

I find this MLS player loan thing a total circus to be honest and see little profit in bringing in a striker we should/could have signed ten years ago at this stage and for just six games. I`m not well at the moment so maybe I`m just being miserable but if this is meant to 'lift the fans` as McLeish said the other day, then sorry, job not done. All this will do, if he is used, is de-motivate the player/s who have to move out of the team to accommodate him. Hey ho, not my money, not my decision. For me the Premier League should change the rules back to how they were and say no loans apart from in exceptional circumstances (ie when we hadn`t got a keeper to play and we loaned Kirally)

There, that is your dose of misery for the day, sorry, this is a joke to me! Hope he now scores the winner v Arsenal and has me laughing for other reasons

What about developing youth JP? Always thought you were miserable, sickness no excuse;-)
Winsforvilla
Robbie might be just what you need.
TeddyLyon
I agree JPF that the League should change the rules about loans, but they haven't. I am not quite so negative about this loan as some. Heskey is probably out for a few weeks, and let's be honest, neither Delfonseau or Wiemann are going to benefit getting the odd few minutes in a struggling team. I think Villa should look to loan those two out for a couple of months to get valuable playing time, then when Robbie returns to the USA they come back in better shape.
krfeskivilla
krfeskivilla: I agree with you, that makes sense. In general I also agree with JP but this is not about us loaning a player from another PL club, giving them experience and then seeing them come back to haunt us. OK Keane is probably well past his best BUT we aren't exactly blessed with great strikers and have little to no cash to buy one so why not?
Gordonsleftboot
More important. Get well soon J.
Villaininthemerde
There are a lot of things that are stupid about our club at the mo, but welcome Robbie, even if it is only for 2 months. I'm just glad you're not another useless punch-drunk defender from north of the border.
Windy Villain
Oh yes - and get well soon Mr Fear.
Windy Villain
i cant see why everyones crying about us signing robbie keane FFS. Hes better than both Heskey and delfouenso by a mile
pauled177
Robbie to develop the youth you mean winsforvilla? Same as Pires did? He isn't there to coach. Surely the likes of Albrighton or Bannan will be blocked whilst Robbie is here?! And yes, fair point re: no excuse! LOL
Thanks Villaininthemerde/Windy, appreciated mate, bit of a brain ache flair up, makes me a grumpy boy!
Not sure anyone is crying 177, just find these loans a circus, always have so at least I'm consistent and I don't mean just Villa related. But did hate seeing Walker go back last season and doing so well this for Spurs... seems small time really. Wonder (not that we have to care I guess) how the Galaxy fans are seeing this? Be good if it gets them interested in Villa and honest, I'd be delighted if he does well for us, scores the winner in the FA Cup etc. Just a shame we didn't get him and keep him here 10 years ago. Hey ho!
The Fear
suspect that might be the main objective Fear, try to get a few yanks watching us PPV or signing up for the embarrassment that is AVTV.
AVbornandbred
latest poll asks what you think of the loan signing... we do lead exciting lives don't we?!
The Fear
Agree with Pauled177 ffs. Stop whining about it. If he propels us the league i request video footage of Mr Fear eating his hat.... lol. To be honest i think we need to step off the Nottingham Forest Train that makes us think we deserve this that and the other. Everyone outside the top 5 are small time nowadays unless you have billions in the bank.
nottinghamvillain
Welcome aboard Robbie.
Green Villan
Problem is folks there is obviously no money being made available to get anything better so given the choice and seeing how we performed without gabby when he was injured yeh I will take Keane as a third striker.
Merlin128777
Think Loans are small time but don't see this as a bad deal, Heskey is injuried so as long as he takes his place on the bench and comes on to add something different I won't mind even arsenal do it, but long term loans like Walker last year and Jenas this year don't benifit the villa they only benifit the player and the club that loan them out but again Keane could be a good addition.
KerryVillian
Get well soon Mr Fear health is the most important thing!!!
astonsteve
"Villa is a great club". So many pointless bu11**** comments coming out of the club these days. He's not going to praise another club and say that we're rubbish is he?? Only Houllier would do that. Get on with the football!!!!!
Villan444
Robbie you finally made it to a big club,,,,,welcome ,,,,now for the goals....Mr Fear get some seasoning for your hat
paul muldrew
Out of the options of 'get nobody in' or 'take Keane on loan for two months' I think the latter is the better option, and let's face it they're the choices available to us, so I'm all for this. I do agree in Principal with Mr Fear that generally speaking loans are a waste of time and money, but in reality at the moment it is clear that we don't have the funds for anything else.
