Loans Are A Joke! Robbie Keane Signs

Aston Villa have confirmed the loan signing of Robbie Keane

Video interview: www.avfc.co.uk

31-year-old Keane says on www.avfc.co.uk:

'I'm delighted to be back in the Premier League. This is only short-term, of course, but there has been a lot of speculation over the years linking my name to Villa and, finally, I'm here. I'm excited about it and I know I'll really enjoy my time here. It's only for two months but I will do my absolute best in these two months. "

Adding, "Villa is a great club, a club with a massive tradition and standing in the game and Villa Park is one of the finest stadiums I've ever played in. If selected to play on Saturday, I will genuinely be looking forward to it and I'll be excited to be involved again in Premier League action. I've been training with the players here for the past few days and it's been great but I'm not naive enough to think I'll just walk straight into the team."

I find this MLS player loan thing a total circus to be honest and see little profit in bringing in a striker we should/could have signed ten years ago at this stage and for just six games. I`m not well at the moment so maybe I`m just being miserable but if this is meant to 'lift the fans` as McLeish said the other day, then sorry, job not done. All this will do, if he is used, is de-motivate the player/s who have to move out of the team to accommodate him. Hey ho, not my money, not my decision. For me the Premier League should change the rules back to how they were and say no loans apart from in exceptional circumstances (ie when we hadn`t got a keeper to play and we loaned Kirally)

There, that is your dose of misery for the day, sorry, this is a joke to me! Hope he now scores the winner v Arsenal and has me laughing for other reasons

I agree JPF that the League should change the rules about loans, but they haven't. I am not quite so negative about this loan as some. Heskey is probably out for a few weeks, and let's be honest, neither Delfonseau or Wiemann are going to benefit getting the odd few minutes in a struggling team. I think Villa should look to loan those two out for a couple of months to get valuable playing time, then when Robbie returns to the USA they come back in better shape.

krfeskivilla: I agree with you, that makes sense. In general I also agree with JP but this is not about us loaning a player from another PL club, giving them experience and then seeing them come back to haunt us. OK Keane is probably well past his best BUT we aren't exactly blessed with great strikers and have little to no cash to buy one so why not?

There are a lot of things that are stupid about our club at the mo, but welcome Robbie, even if it is only for 2 months. I'm just glad you're not another useless punch-drunk defender from north of the border.

Robbie to develop the youth you mean winsforvilla? Same as Pires did? He isn't there to coach. Surely the likes of Albrighton or Bannan will be blocked whilst Robbie is here?! And yes, fair point re: no excuse! LOL
Thanks Villaininthemerde/Windy, appreciated mate, bit of a brain ache flair up, makes me a grumpy boy!
Not sure anyone is crying 177, just find these loans a circus, always have so at least I'm consistent and I don't mean just Villa related. But did hate seeing Walker go back last season and doing so well this for Spurs... seems small time really. Wonder (not that we have to care I guess) how the Galaxy fans are seeing this? Be good if it gets them interested in Villa and honest, I'd be delighted if he does well for us, scores the winner in the FA Cup etc. Just a shame we didn't get him and keep him here 10 years ago. Hey ho!
