What The..? Keane 'Deal' Not Well Received!

What The..? Keane 'Deal' Not Well Received!

I`m quite please with this!

I said yesterday in the Robbie Keane forum thread: What? AGAIN? The Annual Transfer Link Returns!!! .... that I`d love to know the reasoning behind getting someone in for just two months.

I must say I`m still baffled and as some readers will no doubt have realised by now, I don`t agree that any Premiership Club, let alone one of our size, should be loaning players at all... the rules should not have changed, I find it small time UNLESS I guess it is with a pre-agreed permanent deal fee is in place.

I digress.

Paul Brown has spoken to Alex McLeish on and McLeish says the experience of Keane is the main motivation.

What about the fact the Spurs fans say the players legs have 'gone`? Or that he`s semi retired to the MLS?

However, as I also said in the thread, it isn`t my money and it isn`t my job on the line, so... good luck if we get him, just seems ten years too late to me! lol

McLeish said: 'Robbie has got massive experience as a striker. That's first and foremost. We have a couple of good, young players but at the moment they are still a little bit fragmented, their appearances - 10 minutes here, 15 minutes there. Nathan has had a couple of games but I feel we need the old head. Robbie is a great character as well. Players can light up the dressing room too and these factors are all so important in this professional game. I just think the glove fits. He can score goals. He is capable of hurting other teams with his team play."

Are Gabby and Bent not experienced enough?

Who do you drop in favour of a loanee who will only be here (not a criticism, it is a career) for a two month pay day?

He also says that the deal isn`t done yet and they should know by Monday and puts it at 'better than 50-50`.

Looks like it isn`t that popular a move amongst Villa fans. Our poll results:

Robbie Keane 2 months loan?
Poll Date: 05 Jan 2012

Bad deal 74%
Not bothered either away 15%
Good deal (ideal!?!) 11%

Just seems a circus this new trend of Prem players going to the MLS then coming back on loans. Be interesting to see who gets dropped to accommodate the player?

Aston Villa borrowing players... jeez. :(

Practically everything I hear McLeish say makes me cringe. Talking on Sky about Keane and worse still talking about Bent. Sorry to say that being a Villa fan is truly depressing. Don't want to read the paper or turn on the telly. Completely lost faith in the 'management' all the way up. Then on match day, seeing it all played out on the pitch with stupid selections and team set ups, pathetic post-match excuses. I predict that the players frustrations will show more and more and not only will we be crap, we will start fighting each other on the pitch if we lose another couple of games and McLeish continues to balme the players.

I'm all for it. Look at how many games Heskey has played this season. If Keane stops that from happening it's a good signing. He can't be any worse.

£500k for 2 months of a semi-retired, tired striker, who could barely handle the premier league a couple of years ago. Way to cut down the wage bill! We're blatantly going to sell Bent, why else would we need this ridiculous short term loan?
06/01/2012 10:02:00
Just when I think Villa can't disappoint me any more than they already do....along comes our exciting new signing....yawn !
06/01/2012 10:05:00
Defies any logic unless as above Bent is on the way out .. He is nowhere near as good as Bent or Gabby so expect him to start every game whilst he is with us ..
06/01/2012 10:08:00
I'm breaking out in claret & blue spots as I say this but....with this sort of forward thinking we may as well rename the club Birmingham City !
06/01/2012 10:11:00
Keane is better than Heskey and Delfouneso. FACT! I really don't see the problem with it. He may not be as good as he was 5 years ago, but he still improves the squad for 2 months. If he helps keep us in the premier league with a few goals it's job done.
06/01/2012 10:16:00
ridiculous - unless someone is on the way out ! Can't see the point if he is going to just be a back up.
06/01/2012 10:21:00
I have mixed feelings about it, if he comes and scores a few winning goals then a brilliant idea. As it is only two Months I think it is worth a punt, he certainly can score goals and does. Lads forget this idea about us being a big club that is like Liverpool living in the past. As of 2012 we are a very average club, showing no ambition with a very poor manger, fans disgruntled and low attendances. So why would a player come to us? there is every chance under the present manager we could be playing Championship football next season. COTVABU
