What The..? Keane 'Deal' Not Well Received!

I`m quite please with this!

I said yesterday in the Robbie Keane forum thread: What? AGAIN? The Annual Transfer Link Returns!!! .... that I`d love to know the reasoning behind getting someone in for just two months.

I must say I`m still baffled and as some readers will no doubt have realised by now, I don`t agree that any Premiership Club, let alone one of our size, should be loaning players at all... the rules should not have changed, I find it small time UNLESS I guess it is with a pre-agreed permanent deal fee is in place.

I digress.

Paul Brown has spoken to Alex McLeish on www.avfc.co.uk and McLeish says the experience of Keane is the main motivation.

What about the fact the Spurs fans say the players legs have 'gone`? Or that he`s semi retired to the MLS?

However, as I also said in the thread, it isn`t my money and it isn`t my job on the line, so... good luck if we get him, just seems ten years too late to me! lol

McLeish said: 'Robbie has got massive experience as a striker. That's first and foremost. We have a couple of good, young players but at the moment they are still a little bit fragmented, their appearances - 10 minutes here, 15 minutes there. Nathan has had a couple of games but I feel we need the old head. Robbie is a great character as well. Players can light up the dressing room too and these factors are all so important in this professional game. I just think the glove fits. He can score goals. He is capable of hurting other teams with his team play."

Are Gabby and Bent not experienced enough?

Who do you drop in favour of a loanee who will only be here (not a criticism, it is a career) for a two month pay day?

He also says that the deal isn`t done yet and they should know by Monday and puts it at 'better than 50-50`.

Looks like it isn`t that popular a move amongst Villa fans. Our poll results:

Robbie Keane 2 months loan?
Poll Date: 05 Jan 2012
Suggested By: JP Fear

Bad deal 74%
Not bothered either away 15%
Good deal (ideal!?!) 11%

Just seems a circus this new trend of Prem players going to the MLS then coming back on loans. Be interesting to see who gets dropped to accommodate the player?

Aston Villa borrowing players... jeez. :(

Practically everything I hear McLeish say makes me cringe. Talking on Sky about Keane and worse still talking about Bent. Sorry to say that being a Villa fan is truly depressing. Don't want to read the paper or turn on the telly. Completely lost faith in the 'management' all the way up. Then on match day, seeing it all played out on the pitch with stupid selections and team set ups, pathetic post-match excuses. I predict that the players frustrations will show more and more and not only will we be crap, we will start fighting each other on the pitch if we lose another couple of games and McLeish continues to balme the players.

I'm all for it. Look at how many games Heskey has played this season. If Keane stops that from happening it's a good signing. He can't be any worse.

500k for 2 months of a semi-retired, tired striker, who could barely handle the premier league a couple of years ago. Way to cut down the wage bill! We're blatantly going to sell Bent, why else would we need this ridiculous short term loan?
Callum_ws
Just when I think Villa can't disappoint me any more than they already do....along comes our exciting new signing....yawn !
MASON_PARKER
Defies any logic unless as above Bent is on the way out .. He is nowhere near as good as Bent or Gabby so expect him to start every game whilst he is with us ..
ByEck
I'm breaking out in claret & blue spots as I say this but....with this sort of forward thinking we may as well rename the club Birmingham City !
MASON_PARKER
Keane is better than Heskey and Delfouneso. FACT! I really don't see the problem with it. He may not be as good as he was 5 years ago, but he still improves the squad for 2 months. If he helps keep us in the premier league with a few goals it's job done.
deanovilla
ridiculous - unless someone is on the way out ! Can't see the point if he is going to just be a back up.
villamike
I have mixed feelings about it, if he comes and scores a few winning goals then a brilliant idea. As it is only two Months I think it is worth a punt, he certainly can score goals and does. Lads forget this idea about us being a big club that is like Liverpool living in the past. As of 2012 we are a very average club, showing no ambition with a very poor manger, fans disgruntled and low attendances. So why would a player come to us? there is every chance under the present manager we could be playing Championship football next season. COTVABU

Absolute Joke. Nice one Eck !

We can't afford to buy anyone. We have to accept that is the case. McLeish has been brought in with instructions to clear out most of the high earners, get on a sound financial footing, keep us up, and then hopefully re-assess in the Summer. Don't like it, but it is where we are at. IMO Keane is NOT being brought in to compete with Bent or Gabby BUT to provide an option 'dropping off' the front man. We will not yet get a full 100% from Stephen Ireland fitness wise and I think Keane will mix and match with him in that role just behind Bent with Gabby Marc and N'Zog alternating for the wide areas. Don't think it is a great deal, BUT we can't afford anything else! Also good opportunity to try and get Andi and Nathan a short loan period in the Championship so when Keane goes back to the USA the lads have more regular football 'under their belts'
krfeskivilla
The time for Robbie to come to Villa was about 10 years ago and if Deadly had unbuckled his wallet, Keano might well have become a B6 legend.

Those who say he's lost his legs or that he's lazy/tired obviously haven't seen any of Irelands qualifiers for Euro 2012. Having said that i'm not exactly on the edge of my seat about this signing but this is where we're at. Thanks Randy. Keane is an experienced player, a leader on the pitch and a great chap to have in the dressing room. Might just offer something we've overlooked
Holte End Hero
Finally Holte mentioned Euro 2012! Keane will want to be as sharp and as keen as ever before as he leads Ireland into the summer competition. As a Spurs fan, Keane disappointed hugely after returning from Liverpool and after the Henry handball debacle in the playoff for S Afr 2010. Now though, he's hungry to impress and be in tiptop shape as he leads his country to 2012. And as someone else astutely pointed out, anyone that can keep Heskey off the pitch will be good for Villa!
Spursnomad
lads this man is a proven goal scorer,,,,,top 5 in prem last ten years ,,,top 25 international ,,,,he`s a busy player ,now he may not be here long ,,but he will score goals and the Holte will be singing.... ders only one Keano!!!.... now all together ders..........
paul muldrew
and while we're at it...let's go and get that...what's his name...legend he is...he's old but he'll improve the team no end....oh yeah...Robert Pires !
MASON_PARKER
It was ok when United did it for Larson and when Arsenal do it for Henry, but when we do it everyone moans.
deanovilla
I think this season like everything since 3 days before the start of last season is just a lesson that we all need to lower our expectations. Lets face it, if we were guranteed 12th place now I would probably snatch someones hand off that offered it to me! I really hope Bent stays but as long as he does I think Keane would be ideal for 2 months and may just get us a few goals
Chelt Villan
dont see what all the moaning is about have you seen our other two reserve star strikers !!
marshyboy87
has he changed his goal celebration? man i hope so.....
leftfoot
That's fine if he is used as a reserve striker but have a feeling he will sart in place of Gabby... Mcnugget has been heaping the praise on gabby, as he did with albrighton, so expect him to be dropped soon ...
ByEck
Is Keane a midfielder? I think not, so once Heskey is back from injury he will be back in the team regardless if we have Keane or not, Keane will simply be back up which I think is a good deal, its depressing but we have to lower our expectations, I know I did as soon as we signed McIdiot, its obvios Randy wants to sell so I do expect Bent to be sold for the right price of coarse...
KerryVillian
WTF. People are saying that we should get him as he's better than Heskey???? That's NO ******** reason to hire the mercenary. Not good enough for anyone else and Eck's astute signings since his arrival have all been terrible. Maybe Lerner has told him that he's not allowed any permanents after his track record????
Villan444
We only play 1 up front anyway and Gabby is NOT a winger!!
Villan444
So we are a cash strapped club but we can afford to bring keane in as a "experienced player" i.e. coach who plays a bit... Money well invested. Might as well give Heskey a 5 year deal while we are at it. His "goal scoring experience" will do the younger players a world of good... I love Villa spending money with no return.
Astriel
Hasn't he already done enough damage this season, the way he's managed Blackburn...?
onlyteaminthemids
didnt he spend the backend of last season with west ham dont remember him improving them.
