Bent To Liverpool A Done Deal? Surely Not?

Ok, it`s a quiet news day, I`ll bite!

McLeish has said he doesn't want to sell any players this January and especially not strikers.

However Mark Lawrenson has been talking about the 'massive rumours` in Liverpool saying that they have all but signed and sealed Darren Bent.

www.liverpool-kop.com say that Lawrenson was talking to BBC Radio 5 last night saying 'massive rumours` the deal is 'already done`.

As they say, Lawro would have inside sources at the club, they tend to believe him.

Not sure why, but I tend to think not to be honest. Done deal this quick? Hmmm. Then again, I didn`t expect Downing to be allowed to leave. I know he played his face up and could have become a bad apple but.... Errmmm. No, lost on this one!

Alex McLeish has said "I`m not willing to sell anybody at the moment but you don`t know what will happen" admitting they have had a few enquiries about players but warns "I wouldn`t be tempted to lose any of the strikers - strikers make the difference in this league."

Damn, so, reading between the lines, we`ve sold Bent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most kopites I've spoken too last few days are certain they are getting him. (And also claim you asked for Kuyt in return as part of the deal but that's not happening). That doesn't mean a lot though they are a delusional lot at the best of times.

I've had my suspicions about this since he was sufddenly "injured" hours before we played Liverpool in December, and then went shopping. I wondered if a deal had been done, and part of the deal was that Bent didn't play that day. I know its conspiracy theories gone mad (and it wouldn't explain his absence against Arsenal & Stoke) but you do wonder.

No surprise really, would anybody but a hardened Villa fan stay in B6 at the moment? We're the next Shef Weds. As for Ba, why would he want to come here? Would be mad. Don't be surprised if Given and Nzog are already looking for pastures new.

If he is sold, then the money will to have be re-invested in players, including a striker, because we have no goal scorers. If not, then that's the last straw, Randy, Faulkner and pals will be removed by any means necessary...

Hahahaha well said EvertonMike, they also tend to have no sense of humour when they don't win.... I'm mixed on this, cos if McLeish can't use him properly then it's a waste of talent and we'd sooner have the money to spend. On the other hand though Bent is the best striker we've had at the club since Yorke, and we'd be daft to sell him. But summat has to give we've gotta sort out getting Bent chances otherwise we're doomed. It's all a bit grim just now

I would assume it's Liverpool's dirty tricks and tapping up. Remember what they did with Gareth Barry and how they missed out because of it? Villa didnt want to trade with a team who unsettles a player. Losing Bent now will make us a pointless team. If we can't commit to keeping players and vice versa then we lack any ambition and become a static if not falling club. McLeish OUT!

The thought is so alien to him. Looks like we're stuck with the ginger one, so expect 7 foot strikers who have the touch of defenders so we have something to aim our hoofs at (, in fact I'm sure Ireland was fined for passing the ball around on the floor so nicely against Chelsea.) My opinion on randolph the red nose banker has swung from support to wanting him out to support now after seeing ash downing appointing eck to take the blame IMO for the fire sales that are happening we need to protest against Randolph now. RANDY OUT the clueless asset stripper!

So Mcleish has said he won't sell any strikers....this is the same manager that promised he wouldn't play Gabby on the wing, the smae man who has been saying all season that if defenders keep making mistakes he'll make changes only to play the same two buffoons at centre half game after game. Bent is gone, end of story. He's off to a club that's actually aiming to finish above the relegation zone

Clive - I've been a huge supporter of Randy since he came in but would have to agree that if Bent is sold it's time for him to go (if we can find a buyer). Just a point though reffering to him as an asset stripper undermines your valid point, as the club is currently making a loss year over year and the proceeds from sales are being used to balance the books, Lerner isn't actually taking anything other than a salary our of the club. If he leaves he will be entitled to call back his loans and any buyer would have to cover those debts plus buy the assets at the club so he'd get more if Bent actually stayed because the net assets would have a higher book value. I say again though if / when Bent leaves I will be firmly in your camp of wanting a change of ownership.

I am now 100% sure Bent is not being sold this Jan. I won't be believed but we'll look back and see it to be right.

Not sure what I have to take back really Clive or why? I think what I said is we wanted them to spend, they did so on Bent and if they hadn't they'd have been slated, so I wasn't going to slate them for doing the deal. If it is true it was £24m for him then why would I need to slate them for buying? I didn't and still don't read it as a panic buy, I see it as reacting to the need for a striker. I hope they 'panic' again this January and buy. I don't really get the point mate, I'm lost on that one.

As for get them out... as per the thread (interesting debate in the forum) ... I think you'd have a job finance wise to sell this club for what has been put in, but hey, people are obviously very free to protest and see what they can bring forward. Never again for me, it is soul destroying!

Seriously, if we are going to spend on a striker then get James Vardy for a million from Fleetwood Town. They will not let him go, but buy him and loan him back until the end of the season would be a deal clincher. There are 30 clubs watching him every game, and near £1m bids already turned down. Man Utd and Celtic looking, but currently West Ham, Bluescum and Ipswich in pole positions. Nothing is certain -or anywhere near it - but he looks like he can make it as a Premier player. Fantastic attitude and workrate, intelligent runner, delicate touch , and a real striker's eye for goal.

If we sell Bent then I will be very worried about where Randy wants to take us as he basically bouight Bent to keep us up last year so with a worse manager and worse team this year and already heading the wrong way in the Prem selling Bent would be an obvious statement that he wants out and is simply making as much as he can before he gets rid, what I can't understand is that if this is true then surely he would want us to stay in the Prem as relagation would decrease the value of the club by at least 25%, very strange and depressing times...

Lets be frank this club is presently showing less ambition than we experienced in the Ellis era so lets just run it as a business ans sell Bent,Gabby,Albie, Clarke,in fact lets sell the entire squad and turn the ground into a theme park. I have to say that any faint interest that i had remaining for this club after the appointment of McPlonker has now gone and will not return until there is a total change from top to bottom and it might take relegation to achieve that then so be it. Like others among you i witnessed the humility of going down to the third division and that is not something that this club should ever go through again. Using the fairplay rule at this stage is a p**s poor excuse for controlling finances as no one else seems too bothered and as we're never likely to qualify anyway it is totally irrelevent!!!!!!

You're not alone cynic. The club loses a few mil every year. AND. Why do we need a multi millionaire/billionaire if that wasn't the case?? Did Randy really expect to make loadsamoney???? He's more naive and stupid than I thought if that's the case. 1 thing is for sure, you make less money than normal if you alienate all the fans and fail to attract any more for the future ( which he obviously doesn't care about. ) we may aswell have Sir Deadly back. What would it be like to have someone like him in charge who genuinely cared for the club AND understands the game like him!!!!

This story makes me feel sick, how can we even consider selling a goal every 2 games striker. It's insane. The fact the club have said were not selling means its done.

A goal every 2 game striker? Bent will do well to get 10 goals this season if he stays. I got plenty of stick at the weekend over this, but Bent will not get the service he needs under McLeish. The only way Bent will stay is if we have such a humiliating defeat against Bristol Rovers that McLeish gets the sack. Not often I think you are totally wrong Mr. Fear, but this is one such occasion. He will go, and I'm not sure that McLeish will get much money to reinvest. I think the money will go to reduce the debt to the Chairman, which will then make us a more attractive sell. I couldn't understand why he came in the first place, but I would guess that circumstances have changed now. I could see Arsenal getting involved in this one as well.

As I stated earlier thought this was aploy by the Board to look good they have now announced he is not for sale at any price. Add to that we are reportedly tracking Droghba as we prepare for january bids for Bent. (bbc gossip) Now having second thoughts this smells like Downing all over again we say not for sale but.....
