The Aston Villa January Transfer Thread

I've put it off until now but we'd best stick with tradition and have a transfer thread on the front page!

You know the score, put in rumours, sitings (!) and wishes in article comments.

Don't like any of the rumours of loans, that should not be what Aston Villa are about! Wouldn't mind Pineaar from Spurs though PERMANENTLY though!

If Collins goes then we should get Samba and make him captain. A creative midfielder and left back to replace Warnock. Keep Cuellar at RB and get shot of Hutton. But in truth if we get rid of AM then this should be a "who's the next manager thread". I don't want to see AM spend what we don't have. UTV.

I have had time to think about it and feel we need a younger manager in charge.........like Brendan Rodgers for example who has Swansea playing good football. Tbh, anyone other than Eck get's my vote. It's no good talking about transfers when the man cannot set up a team to win ffs!

Agree that our next manager needs to be younger. If we do get a decent manager though we will face a battle in keeping him as we can't even keep our best players!! An ex Villa player or someone with a passion for the club is what we need who will stay with us for a decent amount of time so we can actually work towards building something longstanding and worthwhile instead of all this constant change .. (which is the boards fault by the way for appointing someone in Houillier who had a few years at best and now the current muppet who was on a hiding to nothing from the off) ... Simon Grayson ticks the boxes for me as our man with Wilkins as his number 2 and sid cowans as a coach ... if only ....

Robbie Keane ? Lets upset Gabbie even more eh ? Can you really see Aston Villa having Drogba & Carrol up front with Keane and Gabby on the bench as super subs ? No nor me... Mind you if Bent is going ... i'd swap him for Ba and some cash from Newcastle. on the Collins rumour ... if we can get £4M for him ... i say YES. We have plenty of cover. Neither Samba or Pineaar will come to Villa. i think if they leave they will want CL footie. So on to the replacement for McNoideahowtowinagamecleish. Well lets look at the options back in the Summer... Martinez -doing rubbish, Mcbrolly- doing rubbish, Sparkie- Nobody wants him, Sven- Not even Leicester want him... do i need to carry on. We need a young untested ex-villa player. I seem to remember a guy called Gregory did ok ... even with Deadly Dougs lack of cash... and what of Brian Little ??? Trouble is our Chairman know NOTHING about english football... so we will probably end up staying with Mcletsetupforadrawcleish

I just cant believe the crap coming out of Villa park lately ! Chasing the has been Robbie Keane, offering £500,000 for 6 games, jesus wept, it`s a total farce. Who is he gonna drop to play him !? The bloke maybe training with spuds but has no match fitness. I remember a tale doing the rounds a while ago, about Keane being caught with Matt Murray (ex wolves keeper) and two females, who turned out to be the romantic interest of some local gangster, who having discovered the indescretion arranged for Murray to have a good beating (resulting in him being out of action for a considerable time) and to warn Keane never to return to the Midlands..urban myth, who knows..I for one hope that its true and mr Keane heeds that warning.

Why do we need to loan a player for 2 months when we currently have Gabby and Bent and are usually only using 1 of them as a striker! The most obvious sign yet that Bent will be on his way imo, that's not saying I think he definitely is going though. I'd love Martin Laursen to come back as manager, I don't care that he's never managed, anything to get Mcleish out!

Personally ... I dont think we need anyone ... it would only stifle youth development. Gardner, Delph, Clark, Lichaj, Herd, Bannan and Weimann all need regular games to bring them up to speed. We should be playing 2 of these every match and rotating them, unless we are in serious relegation trouble. Time we got rid of Heskey, Dunne, Collins, Beye and i'd go so far as Delfouneso (i feel he's had plenty of chances to prove himself). Even with these all gone we dont need replacements. I'd only bring someone in if we lost Petrov or Bent. And my choices for replacements would be Ba or Strurridge for Bent and either Larsson, Sessegnon, Dempsey or Sinclair from Swansea to replace Petrov.

was anybody watching soccer saturday earlier when Phil Thompson said that Houllier told him that whilst he was Villa manager he arranged a deal to sign Cabaye, who is now at Newcastle, for £4 million, but the club wouldn't give him the money. I miss being excited during the transfer window, Houllier did seem to be doing the right thing when it came to the window, shame he didn't get it right regarding the results side of things and get the fans on his side because we could of had a few more really decent signings by now had he still been here! if they'd given him the money that is. obviously i know the health issue played a part also.

There was news in the Times today that Lerner has significantly increased his investment in the club so maybe we have more money than we thought. Also Paul Faulkner was in the Guardian backing standing areas at VP. First exec in the Premiership to do so, which is interesting. Mr Fear, perhaps a poll over standing seating is in order?

Bandit, in what way has Lerner increased investment?? certainly not in the playing staff unless he's thinking of getting rid of Eck and paying him compensation. Still it wouldn't be significant. And RE: standing areas, it's just to try to put people off our shocking pitch performances or lack of transfer activity UNLESS the board are so ******** stupid to think that the dwindling ticket gates are because people all want to stand. They would have to pay me at the moment to sit through 2 hours of that ***** in that poor atmosphere.

Probably right 444, but this is what the article (it was actually the Telegraph by the way) said: 'Lerner has increased his personal investment in Aston Villa to £215million after issuing more new shares in the club's holding company, Reform Aquisition. Villa's American owner purchased £5million worth of new shares in December, following a similar pattern to previous seasons as he continues to underwrite the club.' No idea how accessible these funds will be. Personally I'd like to see a new left back and/or centre half. Sadly Clark can't play in both at once!
