Barry Bannan Suspended

It is being reported that Barry Bannan has been suspended by the club whilst an internal investigation looks at the weekends drink driving/crash incident.

Alex McLeish told the press on Monday the 21 year old, who has been bailed along with his mate (Shrewsbury striker James Collins) following their arrest for suspected drink driving that the player is not available for selection v Sunderland.

McLeish said in a statement: 'Barry Bannan has been suspended while the club carries out internal enquiries into allegations which arose last weekend. He will not be available for this weekend's game at Sunderland.'

Shame, but not really any other option.

Just another reminder, it is all an IF until proven.

Hopefully this will be sorted and he`ll come back from this and put his focus where it should be, his career.

Hopefully he will learn from this, the Club have done the correct thing, like most players Bannon is a role model especially to the young. There can be no excuse for drink driving, it is just not on in this day and age. I wonder how long he will be banned from playing? what is acceptable? even though he has not been found guilty by the Courts. Is he to be banned again if and when he is found guilty? COTVABU

Silly boy! The Villa have done the right thing.... I dont care how good he's been (or thinks he's been lately) I'm sick of footballers thinking they can do whatever they bloody well like!!!

Hopefully this cloud will have a silver lining and Bannan will use his undoubted talents to bring the rest of his game, attitude, awareness, teamwork etc. up to standard. We will get to see what the team can do without passing to him and hoping for a goal from Hollywood passes and shots from way outside the box also!!! He will either mature quickly or go the same way as Moore senior and the legendary (for a season) Dalian.

I'd fine him the maximum possible fine, and then let him continue... hopefully he's learned from the experience and doesn't do it again. Coming in to training sobre will hopefully make him the world class player we know is in there too!

Xavi and Iniesta are world class, Barry Bannan is not.

I honestly hate the way the media interfere with footballers private lives, im not saing drink driving is ok its most definetly not especially when footballers could afford to get a ferrari to taxi them home, I just really don't think it has anything to do with football its the same as the John Terry crap, I don't like the man but him cheating on his wife has notghing to do with his professional carrer, could you imagine being fired at work casue you cheated on your wife or got caught drink driving...ridiculas

If you ask me he should be kicked out. The fact that he could afford a ferrari to taxi him home makes it even worse. How stupid can you get? I have no sympathy for drink drivers, especially ones that can afford a freekin chauffer. I dont care how good he thinks he is, hes an idiot.

Actually Kerry if I got banned from driving I could very well get sacked from work, and if not sacked it would seriously damage my career. Bannan like all players is an ambassador of the club at all times and as an adult and a proffessional should conduct himself accordingly. Some jobs don't have responsibility and as a consequence they don't pay well, others have huge rewards. Bannan needs to decide which type he wants and quickly.

never mind that he can afford a chauffer. What the hell is wrong with premiership players. They are supposed to be atheletes, their bodies are their tools. You don't see proffessional boxers going out drining alcohol before a fight, or olympic hopefuls popping to the pub for a pint. They are a disgrace and whilst idiots like Dunne and Collins will never learn, i had hoped that the club might have educated our youngsters into better ways.

Fair enough AVB like i said im not trying to justify what he did just hate the way the media make players out to be animals casue what they do in their private lives when i gaurentee most journilists have done a lot worse, PLUS he has not even been found guilty yet, it wasn't even his car was it? so everybody jumping on his back witout any proof is again why people should stay out of their private life. But its true players like Dunne and Collins are bad influences on the youngsters.

Have I missed something here?? Dunne and Collins got *****ed up last year and ripped the ***** out of GH. I'm sure many fans have done that and not even had a drink. Now they're to blame for goldenhollywoodballs deciding to drive into the middle of the ******** M1 because he can't handle his drink ??

I rate Bannan as possibly the best of your current bunch of youngsters, but he really needs to grow up and be aware of how lucky he is to be in a great position in life. even if we assume he wasnt driving, why was he out at 5.30 am and putting himself in this position?

On a slightly different note, did we sell James Collins to The Shrews or is he there on loan? Disappointed if we sold him as he seems to be banging them in for Shrews (although two stupid drink drivers we do not need!!).

People do get sacked for drink-driving. If the allegations are proven he not is guilty of drink-driving but also leaving the scene of an accident. Leaving his 4 by 4 in the outside lane of the motorway, crashed into the hard shoulder. An example should and must be made, suspend till January, and transfer list, and then see what we can get for him. He should not play for Villa again.

Villa won't sack him, not a chance. None of us know him very well, but I actually thought he seems quite a sensible and likeable young man. Possibly just made a stupid mistake and will learn from it and grow into a good footballer for us.

To Everyone who is debating the Will he OR Wont he be sacked ? I work as a Radiographer and I know for certain, if ANYONE is done for Drink Driving within the NHS, then not only will they be sacked but ALSO they will be STRUCK OFF and NEVER be able to work within the NHS again as a Professional. As Bannan is "A PROFESSIONAL" Footballer surely this too should apply..... But if he is found to have walked away to avoid being caught then this should be he should be JAILED !!!

According to the Shrews web site JC is 33. I thought the one we had was still a kid. I'm confused. Is this or is this not the same JC who used to play for Villa and if he's not what happened to ours?
