New Years Eve Transfer Talk For Aston Villa

Well this link is a bit out of the blue (went to an optician the other day, he said I was colour blind, tell you what that was a bolt out of the yellow)... Sunderland are being linked to a 12million bid for Stewart Downing.

The Daily Mail say if Villa won`t sell this January Steve Bruce will return in the summer.

A swap for Darren Bent maybe?! lol

I`ve asked in the latest poll if you would sell him. I wouldn`t, we need players in not out.

The Daily Express say that Gerard Houllier is after Blackburn's 8m-rated want away defender Chris Samba.

The Daily Mail are linking us with Cluj's 'giant` striker Lacina Traore.

Sky Sports News have sources (!) who say Villa (and Everton) are after Real Madrid midfielder Mahamadou Diarra.

The Daily Star say Villa will hold talks with Ashley Young to try to persuade the winger to commit long term to Villa.

They say Villa want to fend off interest from Manchester United who see Young as a replacement for the legend that is Ryan Giggs and that Young has thus far refused to sign a new 75 000 a week deal at Villa. As you know, Young only has this and next season left on his contract so Villa will be left with the quandary of what to do with him IF he won`t sign. Let him run down his contract and go for a free, or get 15million now?

Michael Owen is being linked to a West Ham move. Worth a shot for us short term on loan to get some goals in the back of the net?

David Beckham is also being linked with all and sundry but for once, not us!

According to German`s 442, Villa have bid for Basel's 25-year-old left back Behrang Safari who is out of contract in the summer.

Reports say the deal for French Under-19 captain Gueida Fofana is close.

If we was able to get Bendtner, Carrick, Steven Taylor, David Wheater, and Diarra then i think we would be ok, Steven Taylor at 2m and David Wheater at 1.2m are absolute steals, we might be flogging players for cheap but we can try and get some cheap, better replacements at the same time, Carrick for 8m isn't bad in his prime, Diarra wouldn't cost much if they let Van Dar Vaart go for 8m, And i'm really unsure what kind of figure they would ask for Bendter, but if too expensive there is always Owen or Keane, I don't think expecting 5 players in Jan is asking too much for what kind of situation we are in, Plus we really need to get rid of Dunne, Ireland, Davies, Carew and Beye thats 5 players too, plus we are missing the latter 5 players but we might as well not have them on our books since they are being blocked out the team, so it's like not having them at all.
Villa 4 Ever
I might be alone here, but I don't expect a busy january at all, one maybe two players in at best. Sidwell will move to wet spam and the only other movement I see is Carew out, possibly Ireland if anyone will take him and then maybe NRC if he won't sign before the summer. Ash will go in the summer.
AVbornandbred
last year I'd have snapped your arm off to get rid of Downing , but this year he's finally settled and has arguably been our best player, so no way would I sell him.
AVbornandbred
i say sell them all and buy shares in llama farming
Astonian Villan
In my view: sell ash for 15-20 and get marko marin for probably 10-15. Then pinch samba and get a midfielder, kranjcar would be nice, and a striker. then again, i say this every single transfer window!
ruggaboy
Cummings who the hell is he? Is he going to set the league alight? Come on villa buy quality or we are going down. No good looking at cheap crap. We need a proven goalscorer, midfielders, and a new left back.
ShaneBlack
I'm beginning to think it's Mr Lerner we should all be having a go at ....he failed to cough up when we were in a position of strength...not so long ago we were looking like we were Champions league material....that's when you strengthen....any decent business man would know that. I know he's stumped up a fair bit but lets face it, it's been a failure on the whole. The buck stops with Lerner. If he's content to have an average to poor side, he's doing a fantastic job. We all want Villa to be great...in order for that to happen we need top class signings to blend with the great youth players we have, and a top class manager. Yep...I know what you're all thinking...easier said then done....but I dont think Villas board are even trying or aiming for anything near that. They are conning theirselves that they are being sensible and prudent....so be it...because we're going to be the most sensible team in a lower league very soon.
MASON_PARKER
Mason - get a life. Until this year only Citeh had spent more in terms of net outlay than us in recent seasons. The board have not said they are being prudent but refusing to give even more millions to a bloke who wasted the previous hundreds of millions is being prudent and sensible. The board have already said that the previous transfer kitty will be added to in order to give GH funds in Jan. The only thing that Lerner can be blamed for is allowing MON to continue for as long as he did and with as little oversight as there was.
AVbornandbred
Gueida Fofana won't be coming by the looks of it. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2010/12/31/2284488/aston-villa-boss-gerard-houllier-reveals-move-for-le-havres
revua
OK seriously how is the poll no on 100% no way? Downing has been one of the few positives this season. We can NOT afford to lose him and Young.
Adam Deuce
AVbornandbred...You're missing the point....any business MUST strengthen from a position of strength....then you really create something great. Failure to do that has got Villa into the mess they are in. I'm no great fan of O'neill but he didnt have us all talking 'relegation' ...ever ! He got the best out of a slightly above average team. Lerner should have backed him some time ago...but buying one player...HESKEY...was not exactly awe inspiring.
MASON_PARKER
Lads let's keep it nice eh. Mason history showed us Monny got exactly who he wanted in transfers so it's spurious to say Randy never backed him, so whilst it's easy to say Lerner should've coughed up more in January and we should've got a proper striker, what if Heskey was all O'Neill wanted? Signing a proper striker wasn't a one window failure was it, even when he was spending big.
mike_field
Well...I'm not saying Randy didn't back him...I'm saying he may not have backed him at the right times....If MON had 20 million to spend that January, do you really think Heskey would have been the arrival ? There isn't any team that doesn't make mistakes in the transfer market, MON made many, but he got us 6th, 3 times. We should have built on that...but we didnt. Whatever anyone says...Aston Villa is a business that belongs to Lerner...and its taking a nosedive...who's fault is that ? He makes the decisions so he must take at least some of the blame...that's all I'm saying....
