First Villa Player 'Signed'? Press Talk

The Daily Mail say Villa have their first player.

They say we have a £800 000 deal to sign Le Havre and France Under 19 captain Gueida Fofana. The player is being labelled the new Patrick Vieira.

As posted yesterday on Vital... Click Here we are being linked with Omar Cummings. Who? Aye, agreed!

The Daily Mirror say that Celtic are looking to get Stephen Ireland and Richard Dunne in January. They want loans, we want sales... thought Neil Lennon had already intimated he wasn`t interested in Ireland (the player not the location you understand!)

Month old link to Nicklas Bendtner ( The People ) repeated on that caughtoffside thing that seems to just do random links for no reason or with no substance!

The Mirror repeat the link for Curtis Davies to German team

Werder Bremen. Also Leicester City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is quoted saying they want him and that the defender hasn`t made up his mind yet. 'He has Leicester as one option and doesn't quite know what he has in the other hand. But, if a big Premier League club comes in, it will be difficult for us to compete.' Wolves, Stoke and Everton they say are also interested.

2 months ago wouldnt take bentdner but now he would be a vast improvement on what we have. same goes for keane. cisse and maybe owen
hercs23
I'll take anyone who is going to come in and fight for every point!
PiperUK
I broke the Fofona story on here last week..... Another exclusive for Vital Villa!

The Fear
Yes. I would take anyone aswell. What we have now is good but there just in poor form! Things will pick up but only if Hou goes or signs players. Its 1 or the other...
Blitz
Do we really need an 18/19 year old from a foreign league who will take time to settle?? At the moment we need players who can slot straight in and improve on the poor performances we've been showing.
AMS78
"the new Viera"??? Wasn't Nii Lamptey being referred to as the new Pele?! Do me a favour. If this is true then I am well and truly on the "Houllier out" bandwagon. I've no problem with us looking abroad for talent, but it needs to be top quality, not potential Bruno Cheyrou's and Anthony Le Tallec's.
Francobaresi13
And pray tell Franco - which top quality player is going to come with us in this position? name him - and don't say it's the managers job. I knew some would never give a player a chance - what if he turns out like Yorke - this guy is already playing for the national team and in a French league - so what if it is league 2 - Jeez - some people think it's ohso easy to get a top quality player to come when you are struggling. Welcome the kid FFS and support him. He MAY turn out to be a gem and at the price not a big gamble surely?
nazvfc
Well worth a gamble at that price BUT we have shed loads of young talented midfielders, Hogg, Bannan, Delph and Gardner what we need is at least two players who are the finished article with leadership qualities OR another manager!
krfeskivilla
i agree with nazvfc, give the boys a chance! We can never attract any great players in our present league and financial position, not to mention our "sell to buy" policy. So this is going to be "as good as it gets" at the moment!
villa_de
I reckon we should find out where Matthieu Berson is playing these days...
johnnyuk
hang on wasn't Osbourne supposed to be the new Vieira?? we need players now not players that will take a year or so to groom!!
One Ian Taylor
Love the way everyone assumes this guy won't be good enough and will only be for the future. 19 is old enough if you're good enough and whilst we have plenty of young talent none of them could be described as a tough tackling defensive midfielder.
AVbornandbred
nazvfc...I'm not going to have anything against the kid and if he comes I'll back him like I back everyone else who dons a claret and blue shirt. The problem is he will very likely need time to get used to a different style of Football. Even top players such as Modric, Nasri and Nani needed to settle. On top of that, Houlliers record of bringing in young players from abroad at Liverpool was average at best (Baros, Sinama Pongolle, Traore as well as the 2 above). I've been keen on Michael Bradley since the World Cup. A midfielder who likes getting into the box (and god knows we need one of them) and has experience in playing in one of Europe's top leagues. Mönchengladbach are not a top, top team in Germany so I believe we would have a decent chance of getting him. I'm just as peeved with the board, as this wreaks of the reason Houllier was bought in, to sign cheap players from abroad. Admittedly, "top quality" was a poor choice of words, experienced or proven would have been better. My bad.
Francobaresi13
Colavfc my fear about houllier startin to unfold! His gonne bring in pump french youth, play them over are youth who r villa through and through and stop their development! There then gonna have to move on and were left neck high with french youngsters who dont care about playing for avfc! Most them villa youth at min r local villa fans or understand the club! His bringin in young french dudes who will jump ship first sign of new contract elsewhere! Always worries me when a player is billed as the next pele/viera cus it never works out like that! Did messi ever get called the next maradona at 19??? No..... He was being called lionel messi!
colavfc
Point taken Franco. I am not supporting the manager (although I was one of the ones asking to give him time - THEN). But I think we need to stop comparing what he did (purchases) at Liverpool. This is now - and maybe just MAYBE (I know it's a big maybe) the purchases just might be better than those you mention. I am sure though that if a "top quality" player was available and who would WANT to come to Villa - the board would sanction it. I just think people read the headlines and assume that we are going for the cheap option. Funny people were saying there's no money to spend - we are not going to spend - well 800K may not be huge but it's a start and until we see it for our own eyes rather than believing the media - I am going to presume that money is there and we will buy and we will sell - that is football. No club (not even Man City or Chelsea) can remain a buying club - they have to sell also. Give the new purchases (whatever quality they may be) a chance. It's not their fault if it goes pear-shaped - blame the manager for that. As for Colavfc - so buying 1 player at present means our youth are going to get overlooked? Well he needs to buy at least 8 more young ones to do that - jeez - over reaction or what! Please folks take a chill pill - I've been a fan near on 50 years - so I have seen highs and VERY lows - stuck it out and we are still here - we are still one of the biggest clubs in the world (no matter what the media and other "experts" say).
nazvfc
To naz transfer window aint opened yet and his already started! So god knows what its gonna end up like after 2 whole transfer windows! We all know how houllier had blind faith with his french dudes! Why does he put pires on when his got much better options on the bench?????? Like putting guzan on the wing lol! Dont understand why pires is here! Slow, moans, moans, dont really wanna be here, did i mention that his the slowest player ive ever seen maybe apart from that columbian captain from 15 yrs ago with the mop hair! Cant remember his name!
colavfc
All this talk about who we are going to sign there's only one thing we should be talking about and thats when is randy going to sack that incompetent french bloke. He has took a well organized team with 1 of the best defence in the league to a shambles of a team, everone out of postition just chasing the ball like a pub team. There's only one place we are going to end up with this guy in charge and that championship no matter how much we spend in jan. What we need to do is use some of the transfer kitty to get rid, then get in a manager (Martin jol hopefully or even big sam) who knows what hes doing, don't just throw money at it we will be in big trouble come the end of the season. We could stay up even if we spend nothing in jan as long as we get rid of the incompetent french bloke as hes side kick.
reno
Ah, so now we have the Togolese Zidane and the new Vieria, and the real Bobi! Where's the crisis.... =/
