Sky Reporter On Lack Of Allies For Gerard Houllier

A couple of article submissions which I thought would fit well together.

Interesting on Sky Sports News, Villa reporter Pete Colley saying Gerard Houllier has no real allies in the dressing room amongst the senior players. Must admit, even without an ITK it is clear they are not playing for him at all, some professional pride would be nice from the players but you do have to say that they are playing like the last days of David O`Leary where the players could so very obviously not stand the manager.

All sorts of rumours flying around the internet about press conferences due, Gerard being given an option to resign, etc. Thing is, 2+2 quite often doesn`t come to 4 on these sites and forums and it only takes a whisper for it all to explode into 'fact`.... Hopefully some sign will come from the club, I`d like an exit in fairness but if not, a statement that the manager is staying will at least let us all know and we can calm down until New Years day at least!

Right, two submissions:

Relegation Nightmare

Recent comments have suggested that despite the horrendous mess the club is now in, there are enough 'quality' players to haul the club back from the brink of the abyss.

As a life long villa supporter, season ticket holder, businessman, and author, even if we did have some players of the very highest quality we would continue to fall. I am not a doom monger, I think on my feet and look at the reality of the situation - as like any supporter in situations like this it is painfully frustrating because I am just another supporter who cannot have any bearing on the decisions that need to be made. In a very short period of time we are WITHOUT A TEAM.

Yes, we have the players but it is going to take a true leader with drive and spirit to forge that team back together,so that they play with the drive and ambition as a team that we were seeing last season, on the brink (so close but yet so far) of taking the club to a level not seen in over 100 years. Referring back to the drive and ambition we are also WITHOUT A MANAGER. All Villa supporters I am sure realise that this situation is serious, we have little time to pull out from the dive, I am sure Mr Lerner realises also as it will be the board and himself who will be left with the financial consequences if the worst becomes reality - and it will be the worst possible outcome for the many supporters left broken hearted.

So act now!!

Would you be content with 17th place this season?

Would you be content with 17th place this season?

Well, that could have been a better run of Christmas games couldn't it?

With only 1 win and 3 points in 6 games, we're certainly looking relegation fodder, and in fact, as results currently stand, only the fact that there are worse teams in the league will keep us up! So far, Houlier has averaged only 0.9 points a game, compared to 1.5 for KMAC and 1.6 for MON in his 3 full seasons. We all said that this was a 'transitional' season, and that we wouldn't be challenging top-4 again because of the time needed to settle a new manager in, so with that in mind, I ask would you be 'content' (not happy obviously!) with finishing in 17th place and avoiding the drop?

I'm going to say no. I wouldn't be!!

We're a better team that that, and we should be at least finishing in the top-10 as a bare minimum, otherwise we start to hinder our chances of luring the better players to B6.

I'd like your thoughts guys!

My report on VMC says most of it. It was the poorest Villa team I've seen in years. 4-0 against our Europa League team flattered you. It was a team with no heart for any kind of fight. What's happened to Brad? From best goalie in the EPL to a shadow which stems from a lack of confidence in those in front of him. I'm sure Dunnie would have tightened you up a bit at the back. You're heading for the trap door boys
pedmachine
we are at the moment pedmachine I'd love to say sod off no way and all that but I just can't! And City didn't really get out of 2nd gear
The Fear
I put the blame at the foot of the senior players who haves failed to deliver, can't take criticism and do not like the kids pushing them out

Can't disagree with anything written above. The most annoying thing of it all is that the over paid pre madonnas who pull on the Villa shirt can't be arsed. I don't care who the manager is, if you like him or not or whether you agree with his tactics, as a proffessional football player they should be motivated to perform at least by their obscene wage packets. Randy stop their wages, no-one on that pitch yesterday should get paid and I'd fine them all for embarrassing the club (oh and you could use the money raised to refund our tickets and travelling expenses)
AVbornandbred
pedmachine, Dunne has perhaps been our worst player this season - which is saying something given Warnock has been virtually ever-present. The player who would have made a difference to the scoreline if not the result is Ciaran Clark who, for some unfathomable reason, is not in the team week in, week out, when he has been our best defender this season.
Albarnista
I think the only option in the short term is to give the first team back to Mcdo...
johnnyuk
Does anyone know why Clark isn't playing? Is he injured?
Adam Deuce
Pete Colley talks the truth: he once called Mick McCarthy an eagle headed t**t. You don't get better than that.
lorenzo
I'm Clarks biggest fan but trust me he would have made no difference yesterday, even if he played out of his skin he would have been on his own. One thing that was noticeable yesterday (aside from how abject and pathetic we were) was how physically big the Citeh team is.
AVbornandbred
Prep the numbers are things we use in things called "sums"

Albarnista! Haven't seen you floating about for a while. You come to bash MON for his terrible management and woeful consecutive 6th places and wembley appearences? Oh no wait! Cus you and your sort hounded him out...

The End is Nigh!!!!...been reading all the forums, and I think we need to take a step back and look at all the contributing factors as to why we are, where we are! MON did a fantastic job, and overchieved with the players he had, as is his speciality. He however left us with a legacy of high earners and more frustratingly good footballers who have decreased in value or are about to walk out of the club on Bosman's at the general age of 26-28 at the peak of their football years!!??!!(Sidwell, Reo-Coker) simply because they were not played add to that Davies,Beye,L Young(back in now) who were ostracised and that's nearly £25mill worth or players who are worth the sqaure root of sod all back to the clubs coffers!!. The board remit to GH was to reduce the wage bill and to improve training...you remember the "bibs & cones" comment about Robertson and Wally...after 4 yrs the players were rebelling and MON had his favourites...simple!.. and that was that!...he let club assets reduce with no return value and wanted to waste more money while offering stupid contracts not in line with club T/O..that is why there was a parting.GH has come in changed things compared to what the players were used to, and this will not go down well with everyone, we have had key players injured( 9 in total...that would be a challenge for any manager!!!) and our experienced central midfield has been out for 2-3 months, which breaks up play, protects the back four, is a key part of starting attacking play!..yet we have played some decent football up until recently where Reo & Petrov are not fit and after so many defeats confidence plays a huge part especially with the young players....just look at Chelsea and see what a lack of confidence can do to a team..!!...also the city game was the second in 4bhrs for most of the side...and as for luck, we have not seen any since the start of the season( how many offsides, penalties not given etc..). GH has not done himself any favours with comments(LVFC etc..) and critising players is always a slippery slope, but if I was putting in 11 hr days and some petulant little upstart was not towing the line, I would hang him out to dry to his adoring public!. Bottom line these players play for the fans, and should respect and honour this fact!. GH has had bad luck, and inherited a situation he has been left with the responsibility to resolve(MON would have to deal with all the bosmans, excess players even if he was still here)....so let's give the man a chance to prove himself with all the resources fit and able at his disposal to put out a winning, hardworking and good aston villa football team. If he still can't produce after this he will be man enough to move on. One final thing for all the bad players he bought at the end with LVFC, what about Hyppia,Hencoz,Babbel,Riisse,Hammann, and brought through Carragher,Gerrard and Owen.....Let's just make sure we do our bit and support the lads, as we(and our kids/grandkids) will be here long after they have all been and gone as we are all lifers not passing ships.....UTV

I used to love reading articles from this site, now itís just the same bs just another day, can we please rally behind the players, we can get out of this mess, i think itís shameful for be calling for the managers head after three months, he hasn't had a pre season or a window to buy players. Give him this window to buy players, The football is changing, and once we have better players in who want to impress GH who is to say the football won't get better, The club need to get a statement out and talk to the players and basically say GH has the full support of the board and he will be given until the end of the season until we next review the situation. Then the players can finally settle down and start to play for him and realise nothing is going to change if they don't put their heart into it, It is some of the senior players that are ruining this football club, perhaps because they don't like playing under a French manager, we need to get rid of these figure heads and we can easily replace the likes of Ireland, Dunne, Davies, Friedel, Sidwell, Beye and Carew, I think we need to keep the likes of Heskey, Petrov, Reo Coker and Young because I think it's these players who can actually rally the players behind the manager. Let's get behind the manager and stop thinking negatively, you are partly responsible for the downfall of this club, give the manager and the team your support, getting a new manager in could make things even worse, We are just getting our players back, at one stage we had 12 senior players out of the team, imagine if any team below the top 6 had 12 senior players out for x amount of games and you tell me that they would cope, and perhaps having a new manager 3months it has a demoralizing effect because they don't know what the manager can do and all they see is really bad results not the fact we have been playing a reserve team for so long, now the players are back they are severely lacking match fitness, give it time, support him out of this mess and let's see what GH can do in the transfer window, and see if we can attract players with some desire to win, see if it has a roll on effect.
