Gerard Houllier has assured fans in recent press interviews that he is fully focused on our upcoming Xmas games, and not dreaming of the January transfer window.
With our raft of injuries so far this season added to those players who seem to prefer to put their effort into moaning instead of playing, most would forgive Houllier for attempting to be as busy as he can be in January to boost our squad, but rightly he doesn't want to buy for the sake of it (with some believing he's simply going to fill the squad with cheap French imports anyway) but he's far more interested in his main job which is getting results on the pitch.
Speaking to the press (quotes from The Telegraph) he said:
'At the moment I'm focused on the games. If you want to talk about Tottenham, if you want to talk about the game after, I'm quite happy to do it. I think the most important thing is to get points.'
Houllier went on to add about our form so far, that rightly it simply hasn't been good enough and bluntly the players we have are capable of doing much better regardless of whether or not useful signings can be made in the New Year.
'We have 20 points which is not enough. Unfortunately we've dropped points, sometimes in a silly way, and now we've got to refocus on the games that are left to play.'
It's obvious that Houllier is planning a clear out, and for the most part there are few we would miss in reality as long as they are replaced properly.
I doubt we'll see much in January though, although I hope to be pleasantly surprised, the main changes will take place in the summer so if we can have a strong finish to the second half of the season, get some optimism back amongst the fanbase and then make some good early moves when the Sun is shining again then next season should look a lot brighter.
