'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Houllier Confirms Villa Looking At Keeper Options

Gerard Houllier has told Sky Sports , amidst speculation that keeper Brad Friedel is about to be sold, that they will talk to him about his future and adds

'We are looking at several goalkeepers - and we've told Brad,' adding, 'We're looking for a keeper for the future. If Brad is fine in February, then we will keep him. We've told him that, if he feels OK. I've spoken to him and said 'obviously, you're 39, so I need to look to the future but I'm perfectly happy with you'.

'And, if he feels fine, why not? We'll ask him in February. If he feels alright, we'll keep him."

Houllier adds, 'If he stays, he'll stay as the first-team keeper.'

I think he means if he's fine in February then we might give him a 1 year extension.

Why on earth are we even considering a contract extension? He makes some good saves but nothing that you wouldn't expect from any keeper, and has cost us more goals than a top keeper should. A new keeper should be a priority and we should only keep Feeble if we can't find one - which might be why GH is going to check in feb.....

I love people like AV BnB. He wants a new keeper but completely fails to name one that would be available to us. I'd prefer Lionel Messi to Barry Bannan. Does that mean we should let Bannan go? Come on Av BnB name names.
