What Would You Do With Ash + Which Player Poll?

What Would You Do With Ash + Which Player Poll?

Vital Villa asked:

What do Villa need most in Jan?

No surprise really, been what we have needed for about 10 years?!

81% said striker.

Goalie 7%
Playmaker 6%
Defender 4%
Midfielder 2%

Our latest poll asks IF (IF) Ashley Young won`t commit to a new contract, what do you do, sell now (or summer) or let him run down his contract?

You need another option in there which I would choose, run down in his contract and hope he signs on after Houllier has got his players in! I honestly think Ash will stay because we have no reason to doubt his word. He seems honest and realistic, it seems he only held off signing a contract to see if we got the old Houllier or the crap Houllier from his late Pool days. I honestly think Villa will kick on now, buy some quality in January and push on with Ash signing his new contract towards the end of the summer window. UTV!

Astvil, I hope you're right mate. I too suspect that Ash is waiting to see how things go for the rest of the season and where we finish, summer activity etc.

Despite regularly being mentioned as Villa's most 'Important' player Ash has never had the influence on the pitch of say Steven Gerrard at Liverpool (although, admitedly, few players have). If he thinks that Villa aren't 'big' enough for him fine. He should also look at his own performances as to why Villa aren't in the Champions League. Not too bothered if he stays during this transitional period or runs down his contract. Albrighton, Delph and Bannan are the future heart of Villa's midfield. Ash has also been somewhat eclipsed lately by Gareth Bale, who is not only a better player but has a better attitude. If Hou does sell him on Villa probably won't get what they could've got a year ago.

Ash has created or scored a goal every other game since he joined, no other player comes close since he came to us.

He is a good player but replaceable. There is no way we should take the risk and run down his contract losing 20m+ in the process. Only people without a brain would do that and not care about gaining 20m. If he signs then great but cash in on him in the summer if he does not sign.

The Ash debate should be very simple. If he doesn't sign a new contract immediately the season finishes then he has to be sold. The asking price has to be north of £20 million. I hope that he stays, but we can not be held to ransom. Randy has shown that he plays hard ball with player valuations and for that we should be grateful. Barry was not allowed to go to Liverpool because they didn't offer the cash. Milner was made to stay with us until the deal was acceptable. It it to the credit of both players that they both continued in the way that they did whenever they pulled on a Villa shirt. So agreeing with a previous post there needs be another option on the Ashley Poll, 'sell if he doesn't sign a new contract at the end of the season'.

It was great to see that we played a massive part in Liverpools demise. The Alonso story how he left Benitez because of his plans with Barry - vintage stuff.

Keep him, get his head back in the game, buy a striker that can head the ball and let him be the leading assists man in the prem.
