Houllier: Players Forget They Have Fantastic Job

Houllier: Players Forget They Have Fantastic Job

Strong and I think correct words from Gerard Houllier about the players.

I have said a few times in the forums if these well paid (over paid?) players can`t see what a great career and life they have at Villa, they can sling their hook as far as I`m concerned, I have no patience left for these namby pamby Premier League players (not all, just the moaners!)

In an article by Neil Moxley of The Daily Mail he says that Houllier wants his players to move closer to Villa as the commute does none of them any good when the live far away. This is no different to what the likes of John Gregory expected. Martin O`Neill was amongst the commuters so he could hardly tell his players to move closer, but Houllier can!

Houllier says he is addressing things and reminds people he only took the job a few months ago so he is still finding out what is going on at Villa.

Houllier explains:

'We are changing things here. People whinge and moan but they have a fantastic job. They are paid high wages to play and enjoy football.

Apparently there has also been an issue with time off, for goodness sake ... go work in a factory on a 12 hour split shift for a few weeks lads, it would kill you. Or maybe a month in a Children's hospital ward?

Houllier adds that they will have three days off this Christmas, 'OK, they`ve got talent. They are at a good club. They are paid to play and enjoy their football. So, what`s wrong?"

'They have to realise they are at a good club with good facilities and they are paid to get fit.`

Full quotes: The Daily Mail

My expertise (oh for the love of Paul McGrath, will you stop laughing...!) was used in The Sunday Mercury. If a player can`t motivate himself to play at one of the biggest clubs in British football, then .... ? Well, as it says in the quotes, they can sod off!!??

The title said enough for me Fear. It is all too true... the arguement has often been raised that they're paid that much to set themselves up for the rest of their lives because most of them are useless at everything else in life. I don't really buy it. though i may believe it with some dorks in the game... looking at you Barton!

agreed Zarch and I don't blame them getting every penny they can but I do wish some would show their appreciation a bit better and look at least half interested on the pitch! I remember Gareth Southgate saying he felt his last year of Villa he had just drifted and it had been a waste of time. I'd just had a brain operation and couldn't help but wonder if these people are for real!

I hate to admit it, but I would like to see us sign Joey Barton. I know it's crazy but to me it makes sense. He has no patience for overpaid team mates who live in their own reality, I think he's already expressed something about that subject in the past. There's also no doubt that on his day he is a fantastic football player. I know he's a knob off (and often on) the pitch but I think we could benefit in this season of transition having someone of his passion, bite and skill. Also I think he gets a lot of attention of being the bad boy of football, but come on...I bet any money half the players at villa at the moment are just as big *****ers off the pitch, it just doesn't get reported about. And maybe...just maybe Houllier can be the one to put him right. You never know.

Thom85 - Sky sports news saying he can leave in January for 1.5m. At that price I seriously believe we should sign him. He is certainly an improvement on Hogg and a similar level to NRC who isnt signing a new deal

agreed, Hogg has a bright future but we need experience this season. Barton has played a massive part in Newcastles success this season. £1.5m is a bargain.

Barton is a discrace of a human and I bet there in 20 players out there better than him at 1.5mil. A player like that should never wear our shirt!! Think about the lads at training?? What happens if they hate him and he has a bad vibe?? Or worse tackles a youth player and tries to stub a cigarette butt in his eye?? Come on guys Barton NO BLOODY WAY
