Ashley Young Fit Again AND NOT FOR SALE?

Strange one, The Express & Star say that Ashley Young could be fit for the Spurs game on Boxing Day.

Reports had said he could be out for a month with ankle trouble: Ashley Young Out For A Month?

However Gerard Houllier says he only has a small knee injury

forum

'His ankle is fine, it`s a knee problem. I hope to get him back for Tottenham. It`s a medial ligament, grade one strain. He should be OK for Tottenham or at least available. He didn`t train at all. Last week he just went out for a bit of running. He`s been in practically all of the games and his work rate is phenomenal. He can withstand the physical pressure, but he`s the most fouled player when he plays in the centre."

Houllier also confirms another earlier report covered on Vital that Fabian Delph, Stiliyan Petrov and does anyone care Steve Sidwell are back in light training. See: Three Return But The Young One's Are Out

Now onto the more serious business of Ashley Young and the links to him moving.

Stuart James in The Guardian reports that Villa would rather let Ash run down his contract than sell him now.

I must admit, I wouldn`t. I don`t want him to go, but IF (and I do mean IF... it is by no way definite that he wants out) he won`t commit I would want to get as much for him as we can now, but I do understand then that people will continue to say we are a selling club ... which we aren`t! Players have the power, that is it, full stop.

I digress.. as is my want..

forum

The report says with 18 months left on his deal, Villa would rather keep him and let him run that down than let him go now.

The Guardian claim that Ash - and I quote - pulled out of signing at the last minute after months of discussions culminated in him agreeing terms on a new four-year deal that would have given him a significant salary rise - he is already the highest-paid player at the club - and included a clause allowing him to leave for a pre-determined fee.

The paper also says Randy Lerner has no intention of letting him go, although one would expect the final say goes to the manager?

What would you do? Let him run down his deal or make the most you can out of him in a sale now and then spend that on a replacement?

Bye bye, look at where you are in the table. What happens when the mildly ambitious one hands in a transfer request.

He discovers he's not as good as his own hype and we maintain 11 men in every game, given he spends at least a quarter on the floor or moaning at the officials?
mike_field
If he pulls his finger out we'll allow him to stop at the mighty Villa
Steff_the_Villan
Ship him out and I think in not too many months following we'll see how average he usually is. His corners are poor and he wont stop trying to win them, he dirties our badge every game with his pathetic diving and he spends a silly amount of time shouting at our good lads. Similar situation to Ronaldos last season at Man U (although obviously with a far poorer player), at times he causes more harm than good with his attitude on the pitch

OK i'm giving sidwell a plug here. He's been reliable in the mid. ok not outstanding... but he's always worked hard, for the team and never once did you hear about him complaining about being benched all the time. Right now, i rate him over ireland. I hope he does well with the hammers.

He performs like spoilt brat . Not one villa fan I have spoken to has said they wouldn't want to sell . I think we are all fed up watching him throw himself around and shrieking at everyone else ! It always seems to be someone else's fault for him. Perhaps he needs to sit on a naughty step that'll teach him !!

Ash is not for sale just like Barry and Milner weren't for sale! If a good offer comes in then he is gone.

Properly looks like starvin marvin in that first pic as well

Ashley Young just infuriates - so much skill but so little result. How many times in a match does he do something brilliant and then wastes the final ball - how many corners.........? A good price for him and he must be on his way. There are several players costing a fraction of his fee plus wage that could put as much into the team as Young that could be available - he should be ashamed to take his money for what he contributes. 80m - my Jim Royle !!!

miss polite - I am your first! IMO Ash is one of, if not the, best player we have. I will concede he developed a nasty habit last season of going over far too easily but reflect on the fact that at times he has single handendly carried our attacking threat, he gets singled out by opposition managers and players alike and is more often than not double marked. He takes some serious stick on the pitch every game and gets nowhere near the level of protection from officials that he should or would get if he played for a more fashionable side. I would contend that he developed his diving habit for two good reasons, firstly he was instructed to win free kicks and corners as we had bugger all hope of scoring from free play and secondly he anticipated getting clattered every time he got the ball.
AVbornandbred
in answer to the question. If GH thinks he can turn us around then I would keep Ash and try to convince him to stay (which he has always intimated he would). If GH thinks there is no chance of him staying then we should cash in now.
AVbornandbred
Some interesting points about Ash and quite a few I agree with. His delivery for the last season and a half has been poor. He also doesn't seem to run at players like he used to. However, as it seems AVbornandbred was alluding too, we are a worse team without him. The general sense in this country is that he is still the same player as he was a couple of years ago, with great delivery and devestating dribbling, as a result having teams gang up on him, allowing our other players to make the most of the space provided. If we have a chance of keeping him then we definitely should. If he does decide he wants to leave however, get the money in for him. If we can survive without Dwight Yorke when he left those years ago, we can survive without any player in the current squad.
