'If It's Football, It's Vital'

McAllister Hails Mental Strength

Gary McAllister has praised the mental strength of the lads after securing all 3 points against the Baggies.

Speaking on the Official Site GaryMac allowed himself a moment to think back to the last game, as he urges the players to take all the positives they can and show them again in this weekends game.

'The facts are when you look at a table and the position prior to the game it brings pressure. You could feel it, which is expected so I thought it was an even better result than people are saying because there was pressure on the players, on the young players and probably more on the experienced players.'

'So from that point of view, I thought it was a fantastic result against a side playing with a lot of confidence.'

There's certainly no denying that Di Matteo has got the Baggies playing well, but he's also made them far more solid than Mowbray managed whilst playing the same type of football and there were plenty who thought we'd be on the end of another loss, so I can definitely see GaryMac's point that the victory was just as important for confidence purposes as it was for the 3 points it gave us.

We haven't had the rub of the green this season, and there have been games we deserved it but our own woeful finishing let us down, so hopefully we can take the positives from Albion and improve on them when facing Wigan.

A second victory on the trot would do us the world of good, and with confidence our performances should drastically improve aswell so we aren't simply grinding out results.

McAllister even acknowledges the wobbly 10 minutes at the end and hopes that we don't suffer similar in the future.

It's not so bad having a wobbly end of game and not losing, but still, most of us are closer to our twilight years now and I'm not sure the backside can take many more of them. I'm saying that by the way, McAllister didn't.

In finishing, GaryMac added on the Baggies performance.

'I thought the work rate was excellent. The only way to get out of it is through hard work and then your football comes and takes care of things. You're not going to get through this sort of period just by standing and waiting for things to happen.

'I though the players provoked a good performance by working extremely hard. We were back to basics and it was people playing from their guts.'
