Downing Hails Heskey And Hogg

Stewart Downing has applauded the returning impact of Emile of the Heskey and believes Jonathan Hogg is forging out a very good career for himself.

Speaking on the Official Site as the team train towards another victory at the DW Stadium Downing described Heskey as a massive player for the team owing to the work he does, and his returning goal will just give him the confidence to push on further at B6.

'It was good to get Emile back and on the scoresheet. Emile's a big player for us - a massive player, he was making it hard for defenders and that sort of thing takes the pressure off the rest of the team.'

Downing also wanted to sing the praises of young Jonathan Hogg, who he says has risen to the challenges of the first team well over the past few weeks.

'Hogg is becoming a regular, it is a good test for him in these circumstances. It should stand him in good stead for the rest of his career. When the going gets tough, he knows how to handle it now.'

You certainly cant argue with Stewie's assessment, far from it in fact. At this time of supposed friction and rumblings of discontent behind the scenes, its good to read of one player coming out and speaking highly of two of his colleagues. We need all the positivity that we can muster right now. Harmony in the dressing room is an important factor, if we intend to give ourselves any chance of hauling ourselves back to the upper reaches of the premier league table. Emile returned from his enforced lay-off last week to put in a performance equal to his improved showings from the weeks before his injury. I doubt whether we'd have beaten West Bromwich Albion without his presence in the starting line-up. Hopefully he can now remain injury free, because its obvious to all I think, that he is a very important factor in the new look Aston Villa team that Houllier is looking to shape and forge. Young Jonathan has improved by the game, looks confident and assured, and certainly enjoyed a promising ninety minutes against Roberto Di Matteo's Baggies. Good Luck to the lad.
